Anyone knows a way to increase the storage to Sony android TV so that more apps can be installed?

Damn I just installed a few apps already complain run out to storage.

The internal storage of the TV is 4.4 G ( except system area ). Looks like the entire storage for the TV is just 8 G. That is miserably small compared to a modern android phone.

Replying to my own post, as I found the answer here :-

Android can keep the app on the usb thumb drive.

Anyone has issue with TV volume control lag when using HDMI ARC to receiver or soundbar?
I connect x85j to reveiver via HDMI arc. While the tv remote can control the receiver volume, there is a noticeable delay in volume adjustment. My parent keep pressing the volume button and suddenly the receiver volume make a huge jump to either too loud or too low in volume. It works by press and release the volume button repeatedly. But it is very troublesome. Using tv speaker, the volume control is smooth. Wonder if there is a way to fix this.

It seems this is the same issue:

Thanks for the reply. I try it again. If I keep pressing volume up button, by the time I hear the volume that I want and release the button, the volume will overshoot a bit. This is more noticeable if I keep pressing the button longer for more volume adjustment. Maybe due to reaction time releasing the button. With the builtin tv speaker, the volume is easier to control. My parent like to crank up the volume listening to news. Since my parent mainly watch Astro and they are happy with the tv builtin speaker, I just power off the receiver for now.

What sort of app do you install on it? So far I'm running YouTube, Netflix (these are preinstalled) and Plex a lot... so far so good on a 65A80J. Just wanna be careful in case it gets filled up in future sweat.gif .

Not encouraging people to install apps but I installed a different version of YouTube player, Disney+ hotstar and a few others. Netflix is already preinstalled. Speed test is also installed on the TV to check the internet speed. Previously installed Kodi, now removed.

A80J has 16gb rom like other high end models. Lower ones only have like 6gb usable.

I've used a USB 3.0 pendrive to increase the space. Works fine for a few days then suddenly the app starting to crash whenever I open it. Not sure why though.

Ah I see, this is why these LG sellers always say the Sony google TV always hang up... while I've used over a year so far so good.

So far, mine also seems no issue. Just 55X80J with Sony HT-X8500 sound bar.
I don't experience any lag. Will test again later.

There are 2 issues.

1) People don't understand FOV. You need at least 30-degrees to get an enjoyable viewing experience. For cinema scope, you need 36-degrees (the THX recommendation). You (and many people) get motion sickness because you don't follow this often overlook rule.

2) Angular resolution is important. You spend all that money for 4k just not to be able to resolve it? Why did you 4k then? 8ft is simply too far for a 55" screen. The optimal distance in conjunction with viewing angle is actually 6ft for a 55" screen.
*
it is called recommendation for a reason, for the 36 degree and it serves as a guidance/yardstick.

while some people prefer even larger, i.e. 40 degree of FOV or so, see photo below, i understand where you are coming from but i don't think there is a one size fits all solution for every single person.

Over the weekend, i tried your 6ft viewing distance by pulling my sofa nearer (or maybe i could have moved more, so could be slightly less than 6ft) and guess what, about 40 mins into the movie on netflix, i felt light headed and had to move further away to feel a little better.

perhaps my tolerance for such viewing angle might be somewhat smaller. Optimal for you may not be optimal for others.

And ya, i did made this a reference prior to purchasing a tv (on FOV).

By the way Sony also has its own recommendation of about 1 meter or 3.3ft away for 55inch tv. did you follow this?

WTF...

So my 11 years old is correct then. I had a 50" for him before and he was standing about 1M from the TV. Then TV broke down and I moved over my 65" and he was still standing more or less 1.5M-2M.
