Hi,
Has anyone experienced this, I would call it WiFi breakage issue? Please read on smile.gif

I have recently bought a 85j and it is constantly not connected to the WiFi when first turned on after a few hours being off. After doing the unplugging of power cable, wait 2mins and restarting the TV. It gets connected back then it stays connected.

But repeating this, I can say on a daily basis is getting annoying.

I mean what year already, should electronics work like that?

I'm not sure if it's an issue with my router (Asus RT-AC88U) or the TV itself.

I haven't managed to get in touch with the service center as recently quite tied up.

1. Have any of you peeps faced this issue before?
2. What would you recommend me to do? Perhaps some testing method or some solutions, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Not sure your issue is the same as mine or not, but I have experienced this WiFi disconnection issue with x85j, it is found to be due to the Sony WiFi chipset ( and other smart TVs too ) is unable to make proper connection to higher channel 5GHz WiFi.

So to solve this issue, on the WiFi router, disable the 5GHz auto channel capability and fix it to a lower channel. The lower, the better. The lower channels have higher distance coverage.

Went to Sony shop got told to try using 2.4 as they may not be stable with 5.0ghz.

My first thought, why I need to choose lower band but ok la if need to be.. don't mind if no DC issue.

But but.. their chip so ciplak?

Most TV are using mediatek SoC. I have hisense 65A7400 and 65X90J Android tv. Both also had some sort of 5Ghz wifi issue. The most common is when left overnight on standby, wifi most likely don't work the next day. A simple restart by press hold the power button on remote would solved it.

Yes it is so ciplak. As somebody said it, they probably use an old chipset. My older phone also has problem connecting to higher band 5GHz. My newer phone has no such problem at all.

I wonder if usb WiFi dongle works or not, it is only <50 each. We already paid a few thousand for these smart TVs, we deserve to get a good modern WiFi chipset.

I also had some issues when want to connect to my 5Ghz connection after shutting the TV down. So what I do now is I just left my TV on standby over the night, the next day should be no problem reconnecting to the WiFi.

I'm fortunate that I haven't faced any disconnection from my TV. But then again, I'm not sure which band it is connected to because I'm using the same SSID for both 2.4 and 5. laugh.gif

Ok. I just didn't expect... Few thousand dollars TV have issue to do with WiFi. That said my old LG didn't have this issue
I waited so long to own a Sony tv and now I have to take care of this.

There are a few ways this can be resolved. But first try to disable auto channel and fix it to lowest channel ( I think it is channel 48 ). It works for me.

I have since no more WiFi connection issues. Internet throughput can be max-ed out using the 5G.

Your router is the same as mine: ASUS RT-AC88U with its latest firmware version:3.0.0.4.386_48260. I've been using this router since January 2019.

I'm suffering sporadic instability with my WIFI5 5 GHz connection, but I believe it's a router issue because some of my devices also have intermittent disconnectivity with WIFI5 5 GHz.

Nowadays, I primarily use the LAN Ethernet connection for my Sony X90H TV. However, when I start the UnifiTV Android TV software, I switch back to the WIFI connection because it checks for it (bummer!).

But I'll keep using the router until I have a budget to buy a new one.
