SONY Malaysia just sent me email message with TnG eWallet Reload pin x 2 in conjunction with their "Joyful Green Christmas with My Sony" campaign after registered my purchased on line with them.

I was rewarded RM 500 x 2 as a token of appreciation from them. I was totally surprise as I didn't aware of such campaign when i did my product registration on line with My Sony few months ago.

hi sony gang,

I have a KD55X8000L bought back in 2018. The detail of my TV's problem and potential solution is as below:
1. last week while just watching netflix suddenly saw that the subtitles are not showing but video and sound are still on going.
2. tried to press buttons on remote but no response although TV notification light(whitelight below sony logo) blinks with every press.
3. Had to switch off TV via power switch.
4. when switch back on, the usual sony logo appears and switch to booting up android however this time screen remains black with no signs of android booting up. (backlight is on so there is still power)
5. left the TV on for another 15mins, it automatically cycles to restart to sony logo and remains the same as per Note 4 above.
6. brought the TV to PJ Sony Service center (R Logic Customer Care Services Sdn Bhd , same building as the one academy), service center said that it is due to Motherboard need to be replaced however model of TV and parts are already obsolete hence no replacement can be done.

potential solution:
1. the easiest is to purchase a TV from SenQ/Senheng to get the trade in cashback and get either LG or (if i'm feeling lucky) another sony.
2. i got in contact with a freelance TV repairer quotes RM2xx for pick up and diagnose/troubleshoot, will only quote price of repair after knowing the problem.
3. bring it to recycling center and just be done with it.

would like to hear comments from users here . rclxub.gif

Update: Sony quoted me RM2500 + RM250 labour fee to change my broken screen.

I'm not sure if it's worth it. sad.gif

seems like the TV brands services knew your sweet spot for deciding between buying new and fixing.(<RM2500)

i'm in dilemma for a 5 year old Sony KD55X8000E that is unable to boot into Android and sony unable to replace motherboard due to obsolete part.

On another note, if budget is a problem and a foreseeable future that a similar case may happened again, maybe fixing it might be a better choice or getting a cheaper TV which doesn't break the bank and heart too much if it spoils.

Hope it helps

told u that it will not cheap. urs is 55-inch or 65-inch or bigger?

the smaller it is, the price quoted is more not worth it...

especially now sony their official website also has discount + free tng voucher.. .
more worth it to get a brand new one maybe. tongue.gif

Plan to get 75X90L soon. Any recommendation of shops within KL? or just go direct to Sony store?

How the extended warranty is structured nowadays? My last TV purchase was Nov 2015 at Harvey Norman.

Do you change any setting recently? Sleep timer/auto shut down?

Reset to factory to monitor. You no need to send the TV urself right? Give Sony CS call they will come check.

Ohya any device connect to TV which HDMI-CEC controlled? If that device sleep, all will be affected too.

Anyway hope not big issue facing for you.

Watching tv yesterday nite. Same prob still happens. It just powered off by itself.

I haven’t done the factory reset yet.

Now I saw that there is a software update available. I try to update and see if it helps.

Not sure if I need to send back to Sony service centre myself or they can come on site to see? Previously my 10 years old 50-inch full hd lcd tv I sent back to service centre myself to fix. Two times also due to lightning strike. First time was within the warranty period which it got fixed for free. Second time no more warranty and I wanted to fix also could not Becos motherboard was spoiled and no more spare part for this old model of tv. So the tv turned out to be a trash and I left it at the service centre without collecting back. Sony service centre does offer 20% off to buy at current tv at retail price, can redeem the voucher for this.

Ended up I bought my this 55-inch oled a80j at rm4999 last year during promo period which was a good deal I would say. Brand new and bought from sony malaysia online.

I only have ps4 and ps3 connected to it. Is it a cause to that? But both of them were not on. All on standby only.

I also hope it is not a major prob. Lazy to get it fixed even within warranty period.

Small TV can carry but big one hard. If spoil during delivery then how? Just give Sony call to ask.

Indeed. I moved house recently. If I did not engage mover to move also difficult to carry it one person.

Will just see if the software update fixed it.
Hopefully it is ok. Really do not want to go thru the hassle.

Actually it's not a hassle at all. Just give Sony The Curve a call and they will create a report number for you. Then few days later someone from R Logic will contact/whatsapp you. You just need to tell them your issue and they will send someone to check and replace it on the spot. No need to carry the TV in. All can be done quite fast if they have the ready parts available.

I had my Sony 55" TV mainboard replaced once (1 person), 65" LG OLED Panel replaced once (2 person) all done in my place within 1 hour or less. Turnaround time only around 1 week or so for both brands. Both brands also handled my cases professionally.

Your case sounds a lot like power board issue.

Icic. Ok. I will monitor again. If it still shut down by itself for one more time I will proceed to raise report already.
