There's a current leak in my the ceiling pipe. (Please see video - https://streamable.com/riewp3

Plumber said to that this kind of piping is not used anymore and has recommended another type of piping (picture below/attached).

Could you please take a look and let me know if this is suitable and is the right way to fix the leaking problem?

He has quoted me RM500 to replace the entire piping in the video(materials + workmanship)...

Really appreciate guidance on this so i dont kena chop

Still sold today..
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/1pieces-...5411822866.html?

HDPE black fittings (plastic pipe and fittings are colour matched, if PVC grey pipe use grey fittings, if ABS blue use blue fittings, uPVC white pipe use white fittings). Learn more about HDPE pipe here https://www.heap-wah.com/hdpe-pipe-and-fittings/

What plumber suggests look like Buteline fittings.
Actually it seems to be upselling lah but if want to do minimal fixing can just change the leaking fittings or add new HDPE pipe as necessary.. the material cost not expensive lah.. the headache is just to get ppl to climb up only.. CSM hardware sell all sort of this HDPE fittings.

You can consider the RM500 as 400 to show up and 100 to cover the transport and materials tongue.gif

very useful information.
There was one plumber to say that he will just fix the leaking part and has quoted rm300.
Another plumber was to say to change it to those (so called Buteline) fittings and quoted rm500

I really do not know which is the more reliable/ long lasting one as i do not want to worry about future leaks. Any recommendations please? To be honest, the headache is not really much climbing because it's just one the ground floor ceiling into a kitchen extension. (but yes, need to pay for the workmanship).

I'm confused and need advise on which is the "future proof" one.

Since its user accessible without destroying plaster ceiling then can just go w usual HDPE fittings. It can last many years if done right. Buteline is for really fire and forget use case where you dont wanna hack tiles for in wall concealed piping..but pricey.

HDPE is pretty reliable like a Scania container lorry already and will be around for many years.. buteline for those who really need a bulletproof tank and where redoing the pipe is a tough job primarily due to concealment and/or expensive rework use case.

you seem to really know your stuff - do you have a reasonably priced plumber contact that can assist on this? I find that the current quotations are really expensive - not sure if this is the norm.

I do it the cheaper way aka DIY coz sad to say I'm poor and don't make that much money to afford plumbers laugh.gif Usually just to change a few PVC fittings cost ard 400 like the wall outlet to WC.. shakehead.gif cheaper for me to convert the pipe outlet (chloroform pvc glue has its own monkey trick that u have to apply liberally and push it in and hold it in for like 15-20mins it to set perfectly as the glue tends to make PVC chloroform fitting pop out by itself) to screw fitting; then just add nipple and T joint and branch to WC via flexihose and screw in a tap. Screw fittings are pretty easy just like lego pieces. Materials even per unit pricing from CSM (not the cheapest but they open everyday incl Sun) not bulk bags like plumber use, and expensive but good Hokah flexihose..i think didnt exceed 30 bucks all in all. The 370 saved can spend on other stuff smile.gif

Only justifiable time to call plumber is for replacing the WC laugh.gif they cost too much especially for small jobs i.e. hip level externally accessible stuff or flexihose replacements.

Actually if you want you can also try to DIY it..plumbing is not that dangerous as compared to level of complexity of electrical work..the fitting shouls be pretty cheap, just measure the pipe diameter and/or circumference before u go..normally u can compare w the pipes sold there at HW store and test fit to get the proper size. If all else fail for sizing CSM can return for store credit if so happen u bought wrong size within 7 days.

Will check it out at! thank you so much. Would it be as simple for me to just find a replacement part and just replace it?

If I am not mistaken it looks like the equal T is the source of the leak and not the end L (elbow) - you just need the tee (Hansen fitting i.e. the screw compresses the pipe to be a tight joint) like this one : https://shopee.com.my/-1-UNIT-Hansen-FITTIN...9814.7777640272

The only thing I can't tell from the video is whether you need a 20mm or 25mm or 32mm size. hmm.gif
It will be marked on the Tee joint as 20 25 or 32.
Can use a piece of paper wrapped around the pipe and mark where they end up to get the outer circumference - can calculate OD (outer diameter) from there using the circumference/π and test wrap on the fittings at the shop.

Should be pretty simple. All black (HDPE) fittings will be on its own section. CSM 225 has a whole aisle for pipe fittings.
