Hi guys, can i have a suggestion on what to get for my next rig (if possible more towards AMD parts as my company will allow me to get some sort of rebate), my current rig is giving problem, not sure whats the issue 2 ssd corrupted, 2 HDD gone as well.
planned to just keep my GPU as i dont see it a point changing that.
i dont game alot with this rig, mainly for office use, type n send, some very light video editting and i guess thats all. i have a budget of around RM2.5k

if anyone is planning to get an AMD X570 motherboard, there are now the passive revisions using the new chipset that doesn't require a fan cooler for the chip.

in short, the best bang for buck pc system right now is an Intel i5 12600k paired with a DDR4 Z690 motherboard (this is under the assumption you don't want to pay a premium for DDR5 ram, nor do you need PCIE 5, also you don't mind a lower end motherboard that just gets the job done)

If you plan on getting a ryzen 5600x, this should be based on whether you can get a cheaper deal compared to the Intel recommendation. Otherwise you will be getting less for your bang for buck. The Intel are giving you more cores and threads for a good price, so it's hard to turn that down.
That said, just be aware that Intels hybrid system has some sort of issue right now inregards to DRM. Some games may not work on the system until that gets resolved, so before you do get an Intel, check if there is gonna be any issues or not.
Another consideration, do you need your new system right now? because there is a new AMD gen coming out early next year in 2022.
Although i am unsure how expensive parts will be by then, i can only imagine it getting worse.
Personally i just ordered an X570 paired with an AMD ryzen 5600X for myself recently. If i had done more research, i would have probly have gone for the Intel perhaps That said i'm ok with the performance of the Ryzen, so i don't particularly feel too bad about it. DDR5, PCIE 5, don't particularly have an urgency for that. And gaming wise, both the Intel and AMD get the job done. that said, the consensus by tech reviewers, is that if you plan to buy a new pc system, then the Intel is the way to go. But if you have an AM4 motherboard, then ya u could argue to reuse your motherboard and stick to an AMD cpu.
if ur budget is low, for AMD then skip the X570 and go for a B550. Check the pricing first. You can go shopee and see cpu + motherboard combo deals.
graphics card no need to buy new one, just reuse the old one, save yourself money. right now they r all overpriced not worth getting graphics card if u can help it. i myself am using a 1080gtx which is good enuff for 1080p gaming.
if you need a good cheap cpu fan cooler, i highly recommend the scythe Fuma 2. but u said for work not gaming? maybe u dont want to spend for extras, maybe stick to stock cooler i guess?
1tb hdd seems too little. i recommend 4tb at least. If you require a 24/7 hdd, then there are drives like seagate ironwolf non pro drives, but if you r fine with desktop drives *rated for 8 hours continous usage, then you can get those instead since they may be cheaper. problem is your budget.... might not be enuff to get the capacity size i am proposing when tallying in cpu and motherboard Really up to u to decide if u want to spend for this amount of storage. Personally i buy the storage that can last me the next 5+ years based on my own usage.
for ram on new system i suggest DDR4 CL16 3200mhz or 3600mhz. capacity size either 16gb (8gbx2) or 32gb (16gbx2), up to u. personally i prefer 32gb. If you want to save money u can get the value ram by these good brands such as crucial, corsair, kingston, g.skill.
If you want to splurge on ram (although if you are trying to save money this is not recommended), then something like G.SKILL Trident Z Neo DDR4 is nice. But the most important thing is get the specs i recommended, beyond that not really important, just get the cheapest good brand ram based on those specs.

Another consideration is which SSD to get. There has been a slew of scandals of SSD brands who had quietly switched parts thus releasin WORSE revisions of their products. So good reviews of a product may not reflect these new revisions of the ssds. here are some examples
The Hynix is good for laptops due to power efficiency. For Gen4 M.2 SSD i like the t-force cardea A440. you can check prices and the reviews see which meets ur requirements. but generally speaking people think a gen3 ssd is good enuff.
For OS you should get a 1tb SSD MINIMUM. don't bother with anything below that capacity size. even if you are buying for low budget. spend extra if u have to.

Intel I5 12600k with a Gigabyte Z690 UD AX motherboard for RM2,668
However it's a DDR5 motherboard. So for this build, you would have to pay the premium on a DDR5 ram....
alternative to that motherboard is the Asus TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 which has DDR4 ram support. This motherboard including the I5 12600k on shopee is RM2,768.88
Yes it's a bit more expensive than the gigabyte but when you have to buy the ram, you can buy the cheaper ddr4 vs the more expensive DDR5 ram.
Maybe there are cheaper Z690 ddr4 motherboards out there, you can look yourself.
Another reviewers opinion suggested getting an I7 12700k if you want your system to last longer. However this will increase the cost to your existing budget. https://youtu.be/uP_2A3Zwzi8
go here and add your parts to check compatibility and to get a price quote (roughly) https://pcpartpicker.com/

thank you, i appreciate the thoroughly explanation. Unfortunately ive already purchased my rig way back in May.
well ur only using it for office work, so it should be alright so don't beat yourself up over it. also back in May we did not have the alder back then anyway. There is always going to be something new, heck, had i waited until next year, i could have bought the new amd ryzen gen. but i needed a pc now and i'm not too optimistic about pc parts getting cheaper in the near future (but i could be wrong). and a lot of the tech like pcie3, ddr4, even current cpu usage (for 1080p gaming anyway) is all quite capable as is.
from your list, if the specs meets your requirements it should be fine. A b550 board for a ryzen5 5600x is not bad, although now i hear that jumping up to the 5800x at current prices might not be a bad idea if u plan to stick to the ryzen platform. but at this point, don't worry about it, that is just nitpicking. the 5600x is still good.
