Hi.. NEed some help here.. how long does the battery for a new macbook pro normally last... i've checked the apple website n it's suppose to be around 6 hours for this model. But for my macbook pro it only indicated about 2hours 3o minutes at 100% charged eventhough i've set it to better battery life...

IS the battery indicator correct or just a prediction...

The Apple predicted battery life for its portables has always been wildly optimistic. I guess you could get 6 hours if you keep your screen brightness at one bar and never do anything remotely power-intensive for the entire 6 hours.

My experience has been 2-3 hours. But that's still pretty good compared to the similarly spec-ed notebooks out there.

On regular internet usage, with doing some word processing and stuff, i can get close to 5 hrs from my MBP 15" but then again, i'm only using WiFi, no bluetooth, and the screen on almost the lowest brightness because if its bright my eyes hurt lol. i usually keep mine wallbound though. On the other hand, using vista and heavy gaming, I get less than 1 hr. LOL laugh.gif

I'm currently using iStatpro to monitor health of my battery and I'm getting pretty 'inconsistent' figures - any particular reason?

Battery Health indicator shows:
Last week : 96-98%
Yesterday Morn : 55%
Yesterday Evening : 58%
Now : 65%

Is this a problem? Do I need to get the battery replaced? *grins* [seems like a lot of you out there had issues with your battery so I started paying a bit more attention to mine]

On average, mine about 4 hours for wifi surfing (Min setting for the screen brightness) for my MBP 17" 2.4 Ghz. I seldom use the battery coz at home I normally use the wall socket power and unplug the battery.

OopS.. I was actually referring to battery health. It looks like there's a bit of an inconsistency with mine - didn't get a reply here so I posted it on the MB/MBP thread instead.

@xetec,
Yes I'm quite aware of deterioration but do u know the estimated rate of deterioration? Refer to stats below for my batt - the vast inconsistency doesn't seem v right/appropriate to me [i'm still monitoring it and will check with the Apple stores some time this week] biggrin.gif

this kind of stuff depand how u use
your running application......

offical stated battery life is just a reference.
every single laptop has it;s own components, these components although are same model, same manufacture, but during production, it's been made indivisualy.

a very good senario, CAR
do u think all toyota vios come with 110bhp enigne horse power? hell no, there might be some different compare to each other.

do u think a couple of twin brother have same performance even from same the parent?

Different usage patterns will result in variable periods of battery life. If you put your screen to maximum brightness; keep accessing your harddrive; are running WiFi and are spinning your optical drive: undoubtedly the battery is going to drain very quickly. That much is obvious and even the most tech-illiterate will be able to figure out the reasons for the foreshortened time before needing another charge.

But please don't assume that the electronic COMPONENTS in a computer are of variable quality. And that this will impact in the battery life that you get from your notebook.

Have you ever heard of Quality Control? Of Standards that electronics have to conform to? These are all parameters that can be measured; held to a standard of quality and if they fail: should be rejected as being of "poor quality". Apple has always had stricter quality control than most other manufacturers. If you're willing to accept a lower standard; than perhaps you should be selling another brand.
