I was tempted to subscribe to Adobe for my side projects, but I was afraid of bullshit like this.

Nowadays I use

drawing = Clip Studio Pro PC, one-time only pay
vector art = inkscape - free, Affinity Designer(PC, iOS, one-time pay)
image editing = GIMP

Some obscure high level functions still available on Adobe shit, but prosumer people like me have absolutely no use for them.

Alternative is fine but not industrial standard. Imagine the nightmare dealing with vendors (printers) because you use some open source format instead of adobe.

Depends on which printing vendor you hire.

Ones I do still uses legacy PDF versions that GIMP already supports. Been printing business cards and flyers without any color mismatch, misalignment or bleed issues so far.
