you CAN turn off UAC, but that feature is a good thing to prevent trojan from executing program without us knowing (aka, good thing to be in a n00b PC so that it will not be a trojan farm infecting other ppl's PC).
A good Antivirus is a must, even on any system. and who the f*** says linux and mac are secure? In term of patching, MAC is the worst OS you can get, as it's slow to detect any loopholes and rectify the issue (like the JAVA + quicktime security loophole which too 6 MONTHS to be rectified). It's just that script kiddy and virus writers prefer Windows as it's the de facto OS in the world. |

QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Aug 31 2007, 10:44 AM) you CAN turn off UAC, but that feature is a good thing to prevent trojan from executing program without us knowing (aka, good thing to be in a n00b PC so that it will not be a trojan farm infecting other ppl's PC). When people start using the F word, it usually marks the spot where rationality ends and fanaticism begins. The supposed Mac OS vulnerability have been addressed in countless forums across the internet. All one has to do is google it up. I will use this clearly PC-centric page as a reference. Read the comments if you like. There's also a bit of misinformation in regard to what you believe, so I really recommend some open-mindedness.A good Antivirus is a must, even on any system. and who the f*** says linux and mac are secure? None so far after 9 months using it.
Even in my customer premises, they have been testing Vista since Beta 2 till now and there is still not a single incident of Vista machine being affected. |

So you like opening strange e-mail attachments from people you don't know?
There's no foolproof system out there to guard against stupidity I'm afraid. |

How secure is your computer depend on how you use it, you can't really find a 100% secure OS as far as I know. Are Vista secure? So far after few months of using it, no virus attacked my pc. |

Ur asking the wrong question. The security of ur PC DOES NOT DEPEND ON WHAT OS UR USING.

I would have to agree with Xeda and a few others above my post. Linux(and other non-windows OS) appears to be less vulnerable to viruses because little virus developers want to spend their time and effort to target for something minor. It all depends on the way you use the computer. If you are a person who actually google for free crack or porn, you're inviting viruses to come. Having tenths of firewall and antivirus won't help. In fact, Vista should be more secure than those older version of Windows as Microsoft would have fixed all previous known loopholes.

I've been running xp for years without antivirus or virus problems. Except the occasional idiot plugging an infected pendrive in and doubleclicking it.It depends on how ur using ur pc. |

Secure...till now havent encounter any problem...
anywhere i dun agree that linux n mac OS far more betta secure than windows... juz imagine if 100 ppl is using vista compare to 2 user is using linux.... u think vista or linux easily been affected wif virus? the reason y linux doesnt affected wif virus is becoz hackers does not intrested to spread to them... |
