I have a old 03 volvo s60, started few months ago there's sound / knocking noise when i turn my steering either to the extreme left or right, as well as normal turning, definitely something wrong with the steering rack i assume, gonna have it check soon, but is steering suppose to feel light or loose when driving high speed ? I'm driving at around 140 and i assume that my steering would feel stiffer to give me the feel of steadiness like most cars would, but mine feels quite loose and don't have that tight feeling, is this normal ?

Do the inner edges of left right front tyres have higher wear than outer edges ?

A typical mechanic should be able to help you identifying the causes of noise during a corner turn and loose/light steering at high speed straight ahead driving.
I suspect loose tie rod ends/ball joints etc can cause both the above symptoms.
How long ago was your previous wheel alignment done, and suspension parts replacement?

Time to check all the suspension parts. If it is really worn, tires will wear unevenly. Easy way to check is jack up the car and grab the wheels at 3 and 9 o clock and 6 and 12 o clock to feel for any noise or play. It is a good idea to check the power steering fluid condition if the vehicle uses hydraulic power steering.

Get mechanic to fix the steering rack first.

Then call Volvo or visit a dealer to get original alignment spec. It should be FOC.
Give them your VIN number, they can look up in VIDA software for the profile exactly for your model variant.

The tyre shop tends to zero out toe/chamber for tyre longitivtiy. This works for Vios/City/Myvi/Axia, general Urban city car.

My Elantra Sport, the tyre shop software profile of front toe shows 0 to 0.07 as "GREEN", guess what? The boss set it to 0.
It still drive fine, but handling not so sweet like when it was new.
Until, last alignment, I brought the factory spec, told the boss to set 0.05 toe in for the front (and other spec that I don't remember).

The car came alive.

For your reference - my 19 S60 T8, haven't done alignment but I got the spec from service manager, prepare them first from the Elantra Sport experience.
- Front camber -0.76 (+/- 0.7) (check only, not adjustable in this car)
- Rear camber -0.59 (+/- 0.7) (toe adjustment will influence this, not sure can adjust independently yet)

- castor 6.0 (+/- 0.6) (Check only, not adjustable in this car) (Most tyre shop don't measure this, it need to turn the wheel all the way to left and right.)

- Front toe 0.1 (+/- 0.1)
- Rear toe 0.1 (+/- 0.1)

Spec for T5 and Polestar Engineered are different.

So as you can see, normal tyre shop that is not experience with continental, and simply follow the machine profile that they got from the machine vendor is not always accurate.
Further more the spec among model variants could be different + their tendency to set to 0.

Wow, front toes of 0.00° and 0.05° give such a perceptible and different driving experience..... never realise that and not doubting your feedback though.

Thank you for sharing such a complete 2019 S60 T8 alignment specs and wish you don't mind me copy/updating the data in my other alignment thread in an effort to 'kumpul' car alignment specs for general reference and comparison. blush.gif
