Hi all, want to ask regarding the bank draft cancellation.
Last year august i made a bank draft from public bank about RM500 for a property developer for booking. However they didn bank in the cheque till now and i received letter from public bank saying that the bank draft has beed expired and i need to bring back the bank draft and the receipt to claim back my money.
My question is if i lost the receipt, with only the bank draft cheque, will they reject me ?
Also what if the developer cannot find back my bank draft ? The money will be going to where ?
The reason for the receipt is to confirm the person who bought the draft so that the refund can be made to the right person. They have a copy but is too troublesome for them to dig out their copy .... an excuse or lazy. Any how, they still have to refund the money with just the original draft only but it may take time for them to locate their copy.
This normally happens if you bought using cash deposit. But the record should be in their system ... maybe just to confirm your signature ... my guess or some buyer just using 'short' name in application form and hence cannot confirm original buyer ... Jack Lim instead of Lim Lai Chee.
Some people dont realise the important of using legal name ... they think is just a simple thing. My friend was fined for using his 'short' name to record in the book during mco last year when the police came to check.
But if you debit your bank account, then it should be easier ... they just credit back to your account.
If you have problem over the counter, approach the branch manager. Counter staff just follow SOP.
