Yes, i buy a lot of magazines. almost up to RM100+ per month sometimes. However, i could not afford to be paying that amount of money every month so i cut down to only a few mags per month for now.Let me give you an overview of all the mags i have came across and let you do the thinking on which best suits your need.
CHIP- A magazine for amateur IT enthusiasts. This mag has an average of about 120 pages per issue. CHIP stopped for roughly two months recently and i thought they werent going to publish anymore. To my surprise they came back with a new look with new contents!!! The new contents are juicy and intriguing. The cover story of every issue is nice and informative. As usual, a review section is a must for all IT mags.Besides, theres also a section whereby readers get to learn those how-tos. Tips and tricks are also included at the end of the book. for RM9.9 its worth every penny spent.
Max-IT- You get a lot of news from this book. Keeps you updated with whats going on out there. What i dont like about this book is that they only have one or two articles in the "Feature IT". If you are the type who likes to read reviews on graphic cards and mobos, this magazine is for you. They review at least 5 mobos/gfx cards every issue. To cut short, there around 30+ pages of in-depth review in every issue. The "Fix-IT" section is good for people having problems with their computers. You could email them your problem they will guide you to solve the problem!!!
Sounds & Pictures- No, its not a photography magazine nor is it a audiphile magazine. This magazine basically gives you all the information of all the "whats coming next" gadgets. This Magazine is one of a kind. It reviews all those branded Audiophiles sound systems. Cameras, Phones and notebooks have theit section too. What i dislike about their reviews is that its not detailed enough, which makes it look like they are reading from the specs. In every issue, there is an article teaching you how to produce nice photographs. This give it a big plus as i have yet to see any magazine out there which compromises every aspect of the IT field.
T3- This magazine is filled with only previews and sneak-peaks of the cool gadgets in town. Most of them wont arrive in malaysia for sure but no harm looking at those cool gadgets wishing for it day after day. From notebooks to game consoles to audiophiles. Theres only a small caption beside every pic tellnig you the specs of the item. Nevertheless, this book still has a in-depth review section. Like any other ones out there. They compare a range of products to see which one's the winner. Lazy to read but wanna have a glimpse at those cool gadgets? Get T3!!!
HWM- Below the titles theres this line:"adware mag". Even before opening the magazine you will know what to expect inside. This doesnt mean that its ALL Ads...Instead, they add in more pages(200 pages for the february 07 issue). Dont know which one to buy? Read their reviews. I am astounded by the number of items reviewed. To cut short, All the latest gadgets are being reviewed to the core. Even 42" TVs!!! Price? only RM14!!!
Digital Camera Magazine(DCM)- Photogrph enthusiast would love this magazine. At a price of RM9, This mag is has all the things a photographer needs to know. From Photoshop editing to professional photographers own experience articles. Whats best about it is that theres a few sections such as, "Hot Shots" and 2 more(cant remember the name). Readers stand a chance to win prizes by sending in their photos according to the theme. Camera reviews are not left out too!Wanna learn more? every issue comes with a CD filled with Photoshop Tutorials and other freebies. There is two versions of DCM. One is the Expensive-pound-converted UK version and another is the one i just reviewed on, Malaysian Version.
I hope this guide can help those of you out there who are scouting for good magazines.
