It is called "ambient light detector" technology. Why it is being introduced? To optimize display brightness and power consumption. So, when u stand in the bright sun shiny day, there will be no lights on the keypad. That will save some battery isn't it? But if u are in the dark area, the keypad will lid up constantly. Try it.

Now for your next test, if you install any Symbian software, will it install in the 8GB flash memory OR internal memory OR u can choose either one? This is really crucial!

18. WiFi is not stable compared to old N95.
Wifi not stable if you activate the 'auto load' function. I found this by accident and disabled it. The auto load function makes u loose your connection.

where to do this?i cant find

This is how I access it:

1. go to that wifi scanning function on your active screen and click.
2. Then u will have 3 options: Start web browsing, search for WLAN, Switch WLAN scan off
3. Choose start web browsing
4. U will go to bookmarks page
5. Click options button
6. Scroll down and see settings
7. Then u see few choices like: General, Page, Privacy, Web feeds.
8. Click on Page
9. Scroll down and you see 'Automatic Reload'. You can change it to ON or OFF.

When I put it at off, the page will not reload itself until u do something like click the link etc. Some website will reload itself and that will result in connection lost, at least in my case. smile.gif
Go for N95 8GB europe version because I dont think the US version works in Malaysia as the reason why they come out that model for US is to make the 3G availble for them. They are using different telecommunication protocol than us, so Im scared than you cant use your 3.5G data package in malaysia if u use that phone. I might be wrong tho, would be good if u check first. smile.gif

thanks for the instruction,
how do u find the battery life on this fon? mine seems to drain really fast eventho i dont really use much rclxub.gif

Instructions for a Nokia mobile phone user using Nokia Map Loader to download maps, which produces the following error message "Connection to the storage medium has been interrupted. Attach your storage medium and retry."

The interruption connection problem is caused by another application on your PC - ATI Catalyst Control Center, which requires uninstalling for the Map Loader to work.

It took me 3 days of searching the Internet forums to find this solution -thanks to a user called 'Galazar' I thought it would be a good idea to post a complete instruction list to help everyone out.

Instructions:

1 Right-click the ATI symbol on the System Tray next to the digital clock. Choose 'Exit' to exit the ATI Catalyst Control Center programme from your PC memory.
2 Control Panel -Click on Programs & Features (Classic View) or just Programs (std view)
3 Click on ATI Catalyst Install Manager then 'Change' button in between 'Views' and 'Repair'.
4 Click 'Next' button to continue.
5 Click on 'Uninstall Manager' radio button and then 'Next' button.
6 On the Welcome screen choose 'Custom' radio button then 'Next' button.
7 On next screen 'Component Selection', click on tick-box for 'ATI Catalyst Control Center' then click on 'Next' button.
8 Once the uninstall has completed and the application exited I recommend your restarting Windows to completely remove it from the System Registry (automatically).

Ok, instructions on how to update your phone. Read this first then attempt!

1 First you'll need to backup your phone using Nokia PC Suite. The latest version of this software (v6.84) is available here -
http://mea.nokia.com/A4346277
2 Download and install the software. Connect your phone via USB and choose 'PC Suite' on the phone. Backup your phone memory as well as the removable card memory.
3 Once completed, exit PC Suite and disconnect your phone USB cable.
4 Next, you'll need to update your phone to the latest firmware. To do this you'll need to download the latest version of Nokia Software Updater (v12.0.0.49974) available here -
http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global...terSetup_en.exe
5 Install the software.
6 Connect your phone via USB and choose 'Mass Storage'.
7 Run Nokia Software Updater and update your phone firmware. For example, a Nokia N95 updates to v12.0.013. As this wipes your phone's memory it's vital you follow step 1 first to backup you phone!
8 Once completed your phone will reboot and should return to Standby mode.
9 Disconnect your phone from USB.
10 Next, you'll need to install Nokia Map Loader. The latest version of this software (v1.2.1) is available here -
http://europe.nokia.com/A4509291
11 Install the software.
12 Connect your phone via USB and choose 'Mass Storage'.
13 Run Nokia Map Loader and choose the maps you require. Note the arrows are used to expand the selection (eg Europe) to show the individual countries. Likewise, Expanding 'United Kingdom' then shows 'England', 'Northern Ireland', 'Scotland' & 'Wales'. Use the + key to select, then 'Download' to install.
14 The maps are installed and spread over many subfolders of the hidden folder on your memory card -
Private/20001f63/diskcache

That's it! Good luck.

going to try this , hope it works.

Hmm, xpresside. just make sure when u connected to the phone when u wanna download the maps to the phone, u are connecting as mass storage instead of PC Suite. I dont have your problem when I did mine. I am running on Vista but not using ATI, but Nvidia. I am not sure if that is the problem for you, but well u can just try the method provided I guess.

On the registration, mine doesnt work when I click MALAYSIA, one of the obvious reason is that my phone is not from Malaysia. But then when I click Singapore, it directs me to the page where I registered my phone at nseries.com/users. So I think, obviously the page for singapore is updated unlike the page for Malaysia users, so sian right? So, I suggest you guys if want to register your phone, just use the one for nseries.com/users instead, it's the same and they accept your IMEI number. If they don't, then u can start worry lor.

mine ok after uninstalling the ATI CCC and pc restart, i thought after downloading the maps i wouldnt have to use net connection to search gps.
if i turn off network i cant find anything from GPS wth?

nav4all support n95 8gb??

i only see N95 over there

nav4all is free or need to pay?? confused

7. Why is Nav4All free?
Because we would like to introduce you to the quality of our service. That way you will never want to go back to the other systems; even if you had to pay us a small annual fee.

8. I only need a navigation system during my holidays.....
Then we would like to be your free route guide to and at your holiday destination.
Once you have to start paying for our services, you could take out a subscription for one or more weeks for only a few Euros or Dollars. That is even more advantageous for you than an annual subscription of $ 10 to $ 25.

support n95 8gb also
free until 2010 ?
