OCBC "restarted" offering CPF OA FD for a few weeks, then stopped again... quietly stopped some more...

I also wish to contribute. These are the rates for 12 months I'm enjoying with NAB & HSBC Premier in Australia:

NAB Term Deposit Rates

HSBC Premier Term Deposit Rates

However, you'll need a TFN and there may be residential requirements to qualify.

Edited for typo.
*
Another option : You can open an NABTRADE acct easily with your primary and secondary documents, or ask for help from your relationship mgr. The High Interest Acct (HIA) gives-out 4.25% today, and it pays out monthly on the last business day of the month.

Indian banks are offering 8.6% for FDs now.
Meanwhile Vietnamese banks have dipped below 7%.
New Zealand banks offering above 6%.

Lots of choices.

Is that in the NZD ?

Sigh. I'm trying to offload my NZD holdings. I have a stash of them, recurring proceeds from some investment properties I bought, which the IRD ends up taking nearly half the bloody lot anyway. Not particularly impressed with NZ's economy to be honest.
*
Same sentiment here, bro.. abt the NZD...

just to share : When I first started investing in pre-2010, I remembered I earned up to 9+% for NZD FD. But when the tide turned, the NZD fell badly. I 'lost a friend' because I told him that my NZD was earning 9+% and this made him converted most of his funds into the NZD, just to park inside NZD FDs. He converted at a high rate.

When the tide turned, the NZD weakened badly, and he lost badly in terms of exchange rate.

Appreciated your sharing.

Actually, your friend's one of many that got burned by the unexpected weakness of the Kiwi dollar. I'm still holding on to a minor paper loss on the NZD holdings - and the original euphoria of China being the biggest buyer of anything dairy related from NZ has faded away to a more balanced scenario - which means I don't really see the NZD flipping back up anytime soon. Ah well, at least it'll pay for a good vacation in Queenstown every once in a while.

I converted every Kiwi penny into the AUD back then,... after that,.. the AUD strengthened further vs the Kiwi.

The key to open GXS account is SingPass.

So as long as you are eligible for SingPass then you should be fine. In theory, student pass and work passes are also eligible for SingPass, but their account will be deactivated once the pass(es) expire, which is why I generally recommend Sporean or Spore PR to use SingPass only...

As for your case, Hansel I am pretty sure you are at least a Spore PR, so you should have no issue with GXS.

Thank you, Singpass in the answer,... hoped you are right.

only reason to buy bil etfs is you wanna take a break from trading/investing, or you have excess usd cash in broker account...

if sole purpose is just to hold usd... then rhb mca is superior for now imho...

1. cheaper/easier myr to usd, and back
2. better interest rates
3. interest amount easily reinvested/compounded
4. but mca debit card has 20 annual fee, since i pay 12 for normal debit card, incremental cost is just 8

if buy bil...

1. 30% of div is 'stuck' for 6 months effective as wht
2. very high relative cost of reinvesting remaining 70% div into bil
3. estate tax if applicable, or other probate fees

bro TOS' pet peeve of only pidm 250k ringgit protection and not getting back usd in case rhb collapse and gov unable to arrange bail out... i'd say split to many joint accounts at least get back snapshot value, but really by that time, malaysia really gg, no local deposit is safe... so is valid point but rather moot... tongue.gif

Hi bro DWRK,...

But if we put into rhb mca, we can't access the USD over the counter, right ? Must chg back into Ringgit first and then access the Ringoiit, right ?

There is another one : CIMB SG. Total FD of 3.5% pa, no lock-in, daily-accrual, but the comparison is vs your September month-end balance. Paid-out on every month-end and on 20th of the mth,......

3.5%...That is a fake number. I have tested for 2 months. IRR is no higher than 2.7% p.a.

They delay the "bonus" interest by 20 days, effectively halving the interest rate. The bonus interest just sits for 20 days and do nothing, yet you can't get it on the end of the previous month. They lock your money for 20 days and pay you nothing.

Don't be fooled by the bankers.
*
I think your September month-end reference amt is too high. That's why you are earning a lesser 2% amount.

For myself, I have no intention to earn interest on the interest. I'll take out the interest to use, slowly load-up on shares.

The advanatge here is - you can take out the funds anytime you wished. There is no lock-in at all.

If that's what you want. But it can go up and down depending on the environment once the lock-in period is over.  Best to spread over different periods like some in 1 month, 1 year.... 1 year interest is 3.5% though fyi

Lock-in is not good for me.

Nope. I have 0 SGD in September.

I verified it in Excel, if I change the bonus interest crediting date to the end of previous month, then the IRR will be 3.5%. You can trust me on this. tongue.gif

Yes, the good thing is this is a floating deposit, but a 1% liquidity premium... is really putting off... lol

Ok lah depends on your purpose too... for your case maybe it is fine.
*
You are aiming to earn interest-on-interest. I am not. I am happy earning interest ONLY on my principal. This interest earned will need to be put to better use.

Hence, I don't mind collecting my bonus interest later. Does this make sense ?

Welcome. The more people open SA Sg, the merrier biggrin.gif
Oh,you can choose not to lock, but don't know what's the interest will be. Maybe you can try with small amount and see how.
*
Thank you, bro,... for the further help,...

Emm, what I meant to say was : even if my funds are 'locked-up' for 30days, I'm not too comfortable with it. This batch of funds that I have, are for the REITs. I got rid some portions of my REITs earlier, and am anxious to re-deploy these funds.

'Locked-up' funds are in parked in other places/instruments.

Welcome. I put some money in FSM Singapore money market. The rate avg 3.2%+ for SGD. Can withdraw anytime but not sure how long it takes b4 it reaches one's bank account. Rate not great but I don't like to put all my eggs in 1 basket even if its higher rates (too many scams and with the advent of AI even more scary). I place safety over greed anytime.
*
Prb could be a money mkt fund has risk towards your capital when you wished to access your capital.

Hence,.... why not the CIMB 'promo' ? It doesn't lock-up your funds, but ok,... TOS' point is good, for the bonus 2% interest, you need to wait for 20 days to be able to access your interest earned.

But you can access ALL your funds anytime without problems and pull-out immediately using SG's FAST transfer.

You will not have principal risk.

If you can withstand the '20-day delay thing', you will be able to earn 3.50% against your basic principal (not interest-on-interest), provided your balance at end-September was $0..

CIMB SG is a bank - protected by the SIDC.

I am impressed by your mental accounting...

Looks like CIMB SG has successfully fooled so many clients...

There is only one rate... 2.7% p.a. It does not matter whether they credit you 20 days later... The cash flow as a whole needs to be considered...

You need to drop the 3.5% idea completely even if you don't earn interest on interest.

When we compare across different products, we use the same compounding frequency when we quote the figures. It does not matter whether you reinvest the interest eventually or not... The convention has to be the same, otherwise it will not be a fair comparison.
*
Very well, thumbsup.gif ... I'll keep an open mind and accept your argument in good faith.

I think in types of discussions like this, the only way is to sit down side-by-side and compare notes and talk. We have no time for this,....

I've just put some funds into CIMB yesterday,...

Perhaps you can help me out a bit here since you already have the spreadsheet. Let's assume I put 100K into my FASTSAVER Acct yesterday. We'll use 100K since it's easier to count using this figure. My Month-end Balance at end-September, 2023 was $1.00, this $1.00 is the Comparison Amt then.

How much interest would I earn by Oct 31, 2023 ?

How much interest would I earn by Nov 20, 2023 ?

I'll match the figures when the dates come. Having a spreadsheet will make the calculating easier.
