Hello Guys,

Currently having issue with wifi connectivity in my ground floor living room. Main router is at first floor.

Unifi Package 300mbps. Currently using TpLink Archer C1200 router with RE405 wifi extender.

There are around 10-12 devices in my house connecting to wifi.

Would like to max out speed in my living room as well.

Please advise which solution is better for better wifi coverage:

Solution 1. Change the old router to twin Asus RT-AX55 running Aimesh. One in First floor and the other one in ground floor.

Solution 2. Change the old router to TP-Link AX20 or AX 73 and buy onemesh compatible Wifi extender.

Solution 3. Buy Deco M4 twin pack and run at mesh wifi with old router TP Link C1200.

Without LAN cable, all those above can’t reach max speed of 300mbps.

If you really want to have full speed around your house, try one of these:
1. Pull a LAN cable to connect both living room and 1st floor router.
Or
2. Buy tri-band mesh unit, not dual-band.

If you have LAN connection, even cheapest M4 can give you full speed easily

Pull lan cable is not an option at the moment, so out of the three options, which one would you recommend ?

Deco M9, Netgear Orbi, Linksys Velop tri-band or Asus RT-AC5300 x2, Asus latest Aimesh 2.0 is great, so much better than Aimesh 1.0

Don’t buy D-Link tri-band mesh if you planning to use LAN connection someday, they never fix the loop issue

Hello heidarren, thank you for your advice but dont plan to spend that much on it yet, anything around 600 is fine for me. Also i found out that i have one Tplink Re305 V3 which is onemesh compatible, should i just go for the Ax20 or Ax 73 ?

Deco M4 replacing the TPlink C1200

Tplink deco series is one of the best mesh WiFi system in the market, it has fast roaming support with asus aimesh doesn’t have

You can read blacktubi review here https://www.blacktubi.com/review/tp-link-deco-m4-review/

Yes some of my friend using M4, coverage is good but speed deteriorate significantly in double story house. Only receiving 80-90mbps out of 500mbps subscription on the next floor.

Since my concern is more on speed as I dont actually move around that much in the house, would the AX73 pair with Onemesh extender a good solution ? I already have the extender, just have to buy the AX73.

Read the review from the blacktubi, the Ax73 seems quite good as well.

For dual RT-AX55, you can get max 300M from main router. 200M from the node.

Yup, there will be speed degradation on wireless

Wireless repeaters aren’t the best solution if you want 300mbps... usually repeaters cut the speed up to 50%

Next option would be the AX55U, as per jayceOoi suggestion

Be sure to use the 5ghz band to get the maximum speed possible as well, 2.4 ghz isn’t going to give you 300mbps

Any dual-band mesh WiFi will face severe speed degradation on the mesh node. It will get even worst when more devices are connected as the available bandwidth is exhausted.

Doesn't matter which brand because it's how WiFi technology works.

If you want performance, stick to a tri-band mesh WiFi.

ASUS: ZenWiFi XT8, ZenWiFi CT8, RT-AX92U
TP-Link: Deco X90, Deco M9 Plus

Just sharing

I got the free 2 unit deco M4 from maxis, 2.5storey house. router and 1unit Deco at level 1, and another M4 at ground floor.
500mbps plan, with Deco M4, Max speed I get just around 160mbps at level 1 and 80-90 at ground floor and around 100mbps at second floor.

I sold the deco M4 and get the AX73, and now full house with 5ghz coverage.
WiFi 6 (tested with Samsung note 10 and PC with AX WiFi), I get 450mbps at level 1, and between 360-400mbps at ground floor and level 2.
WiFi 5 or AC (tested with Samsung note 9), 200mbps at ground floor and level 2.

I will not go for option 3, my own experience, 1 AX73 is better than Deco M4 (not using LAN)

None. Stop your urge to buy the router right now but instead, wait a few more months so you can save enough money to buy those MESH routers suggested by blacktubi

Buy right now and you'll still suffer from slowdown because of reduced bandwidth
Or buy later when you have enough money and you'll get a perfect mesh system that doesn't suffer from the reduced bandwidth

Just normal / default settings.
Maybe you can check, if using LAN it can get 400 and above.
If not then ask the ISP to check.
before that i using tenda, the WiFi speed was slow. I complain to ISP, they check and change the modem for me, the speed is now improved

Disable smart connect and don't use 160Mhz on the 5Ghz channel.

It is not helpful for your internet speed.

Yup, use 80Mhz on 5Ghz

Just make sure you don’t use DFS channels. Try Channel 44 or Channel 149

The AX73 enabled 160Mhz by default. When using 160Mhz mode the router tends to use DFS channels and they are known to be weaker.

yongtjunkit You are right Deco support 802.11r. After some studies on Deco and AiMesh, 802.11r aren't secure as 802.11k, learned this "In October 2017 security researchers Mathy Vanhoef (imec-DistriNet, KU Leuven) and Frank Piessens (imec-DistriNet, KU Leuven) published their paper "Key Reinstallation Attacks: Forcing Nonce Reuse in WPA2" (KRACK). This paper also listed a vulnerability of common 802.11r implementations and registered the CVE identifier CVE-2017-13082". 802.11r

ASUS implemented AiMesh 2.0 which is using 802.11k and 802.11v standard to achieve fast roaming, meanwhile your network is more secure.

Hello, tested both the AX73 + RE305V3 Onemesh and Deco M4. Still Deco M4 give better coverage and speed in my case.

However, I have an issue now with windows file sharing as my desktop connected to my AX 73 directly using Lan, while my phone connect to the M4 and I cant access my file in my windows from my phone now. Anyone can help ?
