QUOTE(Jordy @ Apr 30 2008, 10:27 PM)
So, have any plans of averaging down?
PIADF has already been averaged down automatically.
Now I am thinking of consolidating my portfolio.
I will be cashing out on PIADF and PFEDF and shift to other funds when I have the opportunity smile.gif

I am quite new to unit trust but I do invest in PIADF. Can you please tell me what is averaged down? And what is averaged down automatically? consolidating portfolio would be? Sorry noob here. Thanks for the help

Average down could simply mean bringing down or lowering your average unit cost.

ok...so if I topup during periods where the fund is priced lower (like currently) then it is averaging down. How about automatic averaging down? How is that achieved? Becoz PIADF just announced distribution so the distribution amount reinvested will automatically bring down the average unit cost? Correct me if I am wrong please laugh.gif

On the so-called 'Automatic Averaging Down'..i copied back the calculation i made in Thread V1 for the NAV before & after distribution for PFEDF.
Please take note that the Distribution does help to lower down your average cost per unit, but the TOTAL VALUE of your fund will be almost the same & not increased as most people might think of. See calculation below:
But as time goes by & when u accumulated enough in the fund, you can consider taking out the Distribution when it is declared, so u will get addition income in this sense.

OK got it. Thanks! Btw PIADF is mainly investing in blue chip stocks of the respective country mentioned in the prospectus is it? Or only stocks with high dividend yield irregardless of whether blue chip or not?

It will go into both...High Dividend-Yielding Stocks & Blue Chips

then I think I'll stick to PIADF for a while longer and see how it goes. Cause country and industry diversification is what I like (just my investment perspective - pls dun flame me).

Everyone has their own perspective on investing. I invested in PIADF because I see that there's potential in Asian countries in the long run. Developments are taking place, especially in regional countries and emerging markets.
We should be seeing more inflow of investment into Asian countries as the other regions are quite fully-valued.

I agree with you on that. And I personally think the China market is really too hot. Wonder if it will burst? My colleagues at China are complaining that their 20 - 30% increment per annum is "too little"......

I still have a good feel of the Asian market fundamentals. Will continue to invest in my PIADF as soon as salary comes in end of the month. Hope it stays below RM 0.22 rclxms.gif

Thinking to also invest in PITTIKAL but this fund only invests in Malaysia correct? Or it also invests in other markets?

PITTIKAL is only investing in local i.e. malaysia market only.

previously before EPF announced that only local fund can use EPF $$ to invest...PITTIKAL do have some overseas market investment. But after that, PM have move the overseas back to local....so now is 100% local. Maybe PM will ask for SC approval for EPF investment eligibility soon for this PITTIKAL

Thanks for the info thumbup.gif So that means currently PITTIKAL is not eligible for EPF investment la... hmm.gif

This is a very sad thing... A lot of the funds are dropping way behind their initial investment...

Isn't this an expected thing following a global economic slowdown? Do remember that it is times like this that will get you higher returns IF you choose to invest and IF the fund recuperates. brows.gif

That's two IFs for ya wink.gif

n00b here smile.gif

Whats the worse case scenario? Can the funds drop more than RM0? Lose everything?

You would need to get the history of the fund you are interested in. Maybe you can compare it to the 1997 recession and see how low has it gone before smile.gif

sorry, newbie here, how do we know what strategies the manager is using on this ABC fund? Do you have any example? Thanks...newbie here  blush.gif

Read the prospectus. It will tell you whether it invest primarily in local stocks (equities), foreign stocks, or segmental stocks etc etc. It will also give you the general risk profile of the fund e.g. low risk, moderate, high risk

I have no idea what point are you trying to make here.....if the global market is dropping, what makes you think PM is spared? It is only normal and to be expected yes? All you can do is either wait it out or average down....

Well, to begin with, always research what does a fund actually "plan" to do with your money and what kind of fund it is. Refrain from putting your money into a particular fund solely based on past performance or hear-say. Many tips are available at the Fund Investment Corner thread if you would have bothered to read.

Guys, what are your views on Public Islamic Asia Dividend Fund? Feel like topping up further but waiting for the CNY rally to be over first....will the market recover by then? Or still more bad news from the economy?
