Public Mutual Market Wrap report for the week ended 30 May 2008

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

After touching a 6-week intraday low of 1,260 points on Wednesday, the KLCI rebounded to close at 1,276.1 points to register a marginal gain of 0.1% for the week.

Regional markets closed mixed amid concerns over rising inflationary pressures. However, selected markets rebounded following news of sustained 1Q2008 GDP growth for the U.S.

The market is anticipated to move in tandem with overseas markets as investors monitor the outlook for economic growth and interest rates in the U.S.

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS

The KLCI fell to an 11-week intraday low of 1,214.3 points on Thursday as oil prices surged to a new record of US$138.5/brl. The KLCI closed at 1,248.6 points to register a loss of 2.2% for the week.
Regional markets continued to ease on concerns of rising inflationary pressures amidst record oil prices.
The local market is expected to continue to take its cue from regional markets as investors monitor the outlook for economic growth and interest rates in the U.S.

The KLCI fell in tandem with lower regional markets to the weeks intraday low of 1,221.6 points on Thursday. The index closed at 1,229.3 points to register a loss of 1.5% for the week.

Regional markets fell on continued worries over rising inflationary pressures and expectations that U.S. interest rates may be raised later this year to curb inflation.

The KLCI fell to a 14-week intraday low of 1,186.7 points on Friday as regional shares tumbled following the sharp pull-back on Wall Street on Thursday. The index closed at 1,190.5 points to register a loss of 1.3% for the week.Regional markets retraced in line with the Dows sharp decline of 3% on Thursday and the spike in oil prices to above US$142/brl on Friday.

Market wrap report for the week ended 4 July 2008

WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS


The KLCI fell to a 16-month low of 1,119.9 points on Friday as sentiment was weighed down by declines in regional markets. The index closed at 1,134.1 points to register a loss of 4.7% for the week.

Regional markets continued to consolidate as oil prices touched a record high of US$145.29/brl on Thursday.

The local market is expected to continue to take its cue from regional markets as investors monitor the outlook for economic growth, oil prices, inflation and regional interest rates

The KLCI moved in a trading range and touched a 3-week low of 848 points before closing at 866.1 points to register a marginal loss of 0.1% for the week.
Most regional markets moved higher following the rebound on Wall Street. The Hang Seng China Enterprise Index rose by 12.2% on expectations that Chinas recent interest rate cuts would mitigate the impact of the current slowdown in global economic activities.
