The number of the bath mats that have already been sold in the country since July this year total 23,658, the ministry said Monday. The importer based in Kitakyushu in Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, distributed the products to electronics retailer Yamada Denki Co. <9831>, supermarket chain Izumi Co. <8273> and other companies. The ministry warned that asbestos could be released if the bath mats are broken. The products are being recalled. The use of asbestos, a widely-known health hazard, is banned in Japan in principle. https://shopee.com.my/Ready-Stock-Japan-Dia...8014.3468552736 shit... ayam using this mat... how to check is it asbestos contained or not... https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/339516398This post has been edited by y500: Mar 13 2021, 09:56 PM

QUOTE According to the health ministry, the company manufactured the bath mats and coasters by processing cement panels procured in 2001 from a firm in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. This came before the revision of the enforcement order of the Industrial Safety and Health Act in 2006, which specified the 0.1% asbestos limit. Under the regulations of the time, products with asbestos under 1% of total weight were considered "not to include asbestos." Thus, asbestos items deemed legal at the time of their procurement were in storage for nearly two decades before being distributed recently as hometown tax gifts. Under old law before 2006 under 1% is legal, new law under 0.1%. The question is under 1% asbestos is still safe or not?

why use asbestos in bathmats?
scared of spontaneous combustion should you rub it too hard and too furious?

diatomaceous earth - a kind of minerals used in the mat.
that mineral may contain small amount of asbestos since it occurs naturally.
