is there any software that can be used in windows 10 it self or must buy third party software? / free one time usage ?

You can use Macrium Reflect free version, fast and good

Clone the entire SSD to the new one

Hello,

Are you using a laptop or a desktop? If you are using a laptop, you'll need a HDD to USB connector or a HDD enclosure first, expect to spend RM15 to RM30 for it.

Software like aomei backup and Macrium Reflect are free. If you are bought a Samsung Evo SSD, download their Samsung Migration Software, it's one of the best tools. Cheers.

Doing a clean installation is 100 times better than cloning the disks

The Magician SSD management utility is designed to work with all Samsung SSD products including 470 Series, 750 Series, 830 Series, 840 Series, 850 Series, 860 Series, 870 Series, 960 Series, 970 Series and 980 Series.
What SSD are you buying anyway? If you are not buying the Samsung brands, you can just try using the free software.

I still think cloning is better for some, it leaves the computer exactly as it was before.

I totally agree with this, I always do clean format to avoid any complication that could arise.
Sometimes registry will mess things up, other times it's the software that's conflicting with your current version of Windows, etc.

but mine is OEM version windows 7 (got free upgrade to win 10 last time)

i afraid if i try to install fresh windows in new ssd, the software key no longer work ?

and if install windows 7 , will get free upgraded back to win 10 ? not sure if installation will detect that im actually already have the windows 10 previously?

Normally people need clone it coz less headache install back all license software plus no need change/adjust settings & already safe auto password.

I done cloning using macrium, learning from youtube .

Usually the new SSD will come with some cloning software (at least for crucial, silicon power) they did. Only thing sometimes they clone too well even up to disk serial number and have to do the bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd - other than that it works well for me

From my own experience, Windows key is tied to your PC's motherboard.
I changed and upgraded drive and I don't need to activate it anymore.
It recognizes.

means after i install new ssd in the desktop

i install window 7 ( same cd key as current windows 10 im using)

then it will prompt to uninstall the current, after install the windows 7 on new ssd storage, it can upgrade back to windows 10 ? sweat.gif

when did u changed and did your windows auto upgrade back to win 10 ?

assuming ur using winow 7 and u did the change after the free upgrade to win 10 ended.

After you upgrade from windows 7, 8, 8.1 to windows 10
When reinstall, or change Disk to install, you no need key again on same pc
Just skip step that request product key

You can clone to new SSD with AOMEI Backupper even in Windows mode (no need to boot into USB).
This function is suitable for hdd/ssd with many partitions but you just want to clone the C drive to a new SSD/HDD.

I was just brought my old SSD to my office desktop PC to clone with this software at last week Saturday. Everything are working fine, my office desktop PC is running slow on hdd but it has two partitions. I use this system clone method to clone the whole C: drive to my SSD and now is working fine. At least, now starting PC faster than before.

You can straight download Windows 10 ISO to do a clean installation in your new SSD. Windows 10 activation is totally different than the previous Windows. It will stay activated forever as long as you activated Windows 10 on the motherboard that you use.
