I have installed retail 10.5.6 on Acer AAO from a chameleon patched USB drive. Using voodoo. Then applied disabler and gma950 kext. Working like a Macbook Air (1.6Ghz Atom here) thumbup.gif

Do we really need EFI-X? I can modify a normal USB drive to boot OSX using Chameleon... hmm.gif

Hi, thanks for the additional info.

I have a few more question to ask before embarking on this project. So, Efi-x users, with the recommended hardware, will I still encounter these problems:
1) Support for OSX built-in Software RAID?

2) Jittery scrolling in Firefox fixed?

3) Full Bonjour support, OK already?, this means that all of the following are should be WORKING:
....a. Screen sharing
....b. File shares
....c. iTunes shares
....d. Apple TV
....e. Time Machine
....f. Airport Extreme

4) RAM will be reported as actual speed?

Thanks in advance
*
I am using Abit IP35-E with Q6600, XFX 9800GT, PALIT 9600GT installed with a _little_ modified RETAIL Mac OS X 10.5.6, no EFI-X

1) No problem using Chameleon, speed increases 1.5x

2) Never happen - It's your GC driver problem

3) Good for me - It's your ethernet driver problem

4) Nothing worry about _reported_ RAM. It's just a cosmetic. The speed will follow your BIOS. You can fix it with a modified AppleSMBIOS.kext

Thanks gengstapo. I had been doing some reading lately, but the more I read, the more confused I get. There are so many different way to install it, yet I didn't find specifically what I am looking for.

I am under impression that dual booting it with Windows 7 will be almost similar with Windows Vista. Windows 7 created a 200MB partition to store some system files, though. Hope it doesn't interfere with dual booting.

It will take very long time for the torrent to finish (~1 month) ... So, I ot plenty of time to sniff around..

Oh, and one question. Do I necessary need DVD Dual Layer to burn image?
*
Most hacked distros has been stripped to 4GB so no need dual layer

I've always been curious - with the chameleon method, what do you guys do when there's a new software update? Do you just "Software Update" everything as a real Mac would ? No messing around with kext and stuff? or is that required? I've heard about Chameleon before but I'm just a lazy sod who can't really keep up with these modifications nor do I have time for it tongue.gif
*
"Software Update" can be done with disabler.kext. Nothing to do with Chameleon. Chameleon only for boot sector by emulating the EFI part.

Andiboi,

I suggest u install one of the modified distro`s first to see which works better for yr mobo (iPC,iAtkos, kalyway). Because i think efi-x does not support yr mobo its not on their compatibility list. Basically what efix can do the u can do it with the boot132 method as well. I suggest u install modified distro first to see which distro suits yr hardware, from there on u can extract the kexts and build yr own boot132 disc and use the retail disc to install retail.
As for hackintosh users, the ati 4870 will be supported in the next update 10.5.7  thumbup.gif. On top of that, cant wait for the latest chameleon. That should be the efi-x killer, customizable bootloader with gui  brows.gif

PS: bizkutrai , im on the ip35-e too, quite a nice board for hackintosh eh, not much of a problem installing retail on it. Btw ure on chameleon rite? modified kext in efi partition or folder on root?
*
Yes it is a great P35 mobo. efi partition or on root? I dont understand what do you really mean. I put the kext inside the System/Extensions folder. Basically I only need OpenHaltRestart.kext, disabler.kext, modified AppleSMBIOS.kext to make my hackintosh works.

This is a guide how to create a bootable Chameleon Powered USB Drive. You need a working Mac to do this. Hackintosh or a real Mac.

1. Put your Mac OS X Installer DMG on the desktop

2. Insert your USB Flash Drive

3. In Disk Utility, click on the Flash Drive (the root, not the partition name)

a. Click on the Restore tab
b. Select your Mac OS X Installer DMG as the Source (you can drag-anddrop the files for both this and the next step)
c. Select your Flash Drive (the partition name, not the root this time) as the Destination
d. Check the "Erase Destination" box
e. Click the Start button

4. Upon completion, install Chameleon EFI to the USB Flash Drive using UInstaller (for simplicity) . Please select a right drive to install. get it from here http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?option=...d=149&Itemid=48

5. Reboot from USB

You need, at minimum, a 4GB USB Flash Drive or more. External USB drive can be used.

It's your GMA950 GC kext problem. Try searching for a suitable kext for your laptop.

I mean the workability and stabily it's depend on you hardwares. remember the macs now just like any pc, using intels, same chipset as pcs, same peripherals, same drivers. the only different is the boot loader, they use EFI instead of BIOS. and of course it's only the brand, Apple.

Has anyone manage to get their headphones out working for a built-in Intel Hi-def audio chip?
I followed so many guides and nothing works.

Running off iPC 10.5.6 on an Acer Aspire 5920G laptop.

I actually had to go out and buy and Asus Xonar X1 USB Soundcard to use my headphones. sad.gif

are you you have tried all drivers? how about these links, take a look

I got experience with my Intel HDA onboard on my Abit IP35-E mobo. Need to deal with HDApatcher. Now it works good.

err.. should be not installing like in windows
have to drag n' drop  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

This problem happen _before_ the drag and drop event. Need to open the image first.

gmail,
It's could be the permission problem. Try to repair permission on Disk Utility and make sure the System.kext is identical to the kernel that you use. If you use Voodoo 10.5.5, then please use 10.5.5 System.kext etc..

my opinion is that it runs slower than installing NATIVELY
Of course, VMware only emulate a PC. Try a native then rclxms.gif

Yes it can be done, see here http://pcwizcomputer.com/index.php?option=...id=35&Itemid=32
..or just make a normal install and choose your external usb disk as the target.
