For hackintosh user, most of you use how much of your hdd partition for os x?How about the minimal amount needed inclusive of installation? Thanks.
*
i partition my hdd about 20GB. Cos' i install some software like CS3, WC3 etc.. Minimal i would say is 4-5GB. The installation is about 3Gb+ if you don't install multiple language and also printer drivers. wink.gif

Can I ask a noob question, will hackintosh run smoothly on a notebook with build in video card which use shared memory?
*
smoothly in what sense? Gaming? Photoshop? Or what? Please be more specific wink.gif

For built-in graphics, best is to used either intel GMA900/950. Other than that, less chance to be able to work.

what i dont understand is nothing shown in installation destination windows, though i had unallocated space in my hdd.

another thing,i have to format it by using partition magic first or just using osx86 alone?
*
In order to install mac osx, the partition MUST be in mac journaled. Since mac only can write on fat32, so you can use partition magic to format it into fat32. Then, boot the hacktinosh dvd and format that fat32 into mac format. wink.gif

Just noticed there is one thread here today sweat.gif
Anyway, my hackintosh is up and running few days ago on my AMD Opteron with ATi X800XL

I thought i read somewhere that OS X need a whole drive and a single partition wont work? It actually works ??

I installed mine through VM Ware, a whole HDD, then reboot, viola, boots into OS X.

But a bit disappointing because my built in ethernet is not supported sad.gif sad.gif
*
Not really. I got vista and hackintosh running on the same hdd. Just need some tweaking wink.gif

QUOTE(rice @ Jun 1 2007, 10:23 AM)
it means you can't just tick all those box and have to choose accordingly to your specs?
*
yep. Don't simply check all the boxes. Check those boxes according to your rig wink.gif

@rice, type -v when you boot to osx. it will show the loading drivers and etc. see got what kind of error msg.

Remember that your processor is SSE2. So cannot use SSE3 patch, it require SSE2 patch wink.gif

*
err.. you can try using ati9700.kext. Last time my gc is 9550, i used that kext to enable QE and CI wink.gif

I try to install JaS 10.4.6 to a PC with this spec P4 630 3.0Ghz/4 x 512MB RAM/200GB HDD/Asus P5VD1-X and it could not be install. At first I boot from the DVD and choose to install then the process goes on, but then it halt with messages: Waiting from root system.. and after few seconds the next line shows the same messages. Until half an hour still like that with 20 - 30 line of that messages. What is it?
*
hmm.. is it after the installation finish and reboot? then you get that message?

Mostly is your SATA controller issue. Your mobo is VIA or intel? Try get the latest iso, 10.4.8 or 10.4.10

It's after I boot from DVD, didnt proceed to installation yet sad.gif
My HDD is IDE HDD and it's VIA chipset..
*
Here you go.. That's the problem. I also have with 10.4.6 iso, cos' my mobo chipset is VIA. 10.4.8 iso solve my problem. Anyway, now you can get 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 iso. i heard the setup for that much more easier. Modified kext are provided in the iso, so you don't need to waste time to search in the net. wink.gif

I'm using JaS 10.4.8 now, and it installed well except for the audio driver (soundmax) and the resolution stuck at 1024x768 and my LCD is 17" so looks a little bit blur. Any way to increase my resolution to.. erm let say 1280x1024? My graphic card is ATI 9250.. Oh and yes, the audio!
*
The audio, you can try this. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=15555

For your gc, it kinda old and hard to enable CI/QE. You can try the old method to force to change the resolution. Before you boot to Osx86, press F8 and type "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@85". If it works for you, then you can mess up with the boot plist. Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist Copy the file to desktop and open that file using text editor.
Add this two lines:
CODE

<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280x1024x32@85</string>

Save the file and paste to that directory again. Repair permission via diskutility. Remember, try the first step before you mess up with the boot plist. wink.gif

JaS? Go for Uphuck's 1.3, or 1.4 if its released already...
*
Ntg wrong using old iso. Who so dumb to dl the new iso again if you already got a good working iso? Btw, i using JaS as well and now updated to 10.4.10 without problem wink.gif

The first step didn't work for me, when I press F8 nothing happen it just boot to OSX. I guess it didn't work for me. Will the try audio later but mine is SoundMax, will it work since the driver is for AC97?
*
Hmm.. maybe you do the wrong way or what. By default, any hackintosh sure can type some command in the darwin bootloader. type -v to show those kexts process and so on. Type -x to boot to safe mode. Type -s to boot to single mode. etc..

meet my vaio hackintosh
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

i'm planning to try to install leopard once the RTM version is released.

right now there is still no drivers to support CI/QE ;/
*
What's your vaio spec? If 8000series gc, don't even hope to get CI/QE. But if ATI HDseries, it might can. Some ppl manage to get it. GMA900/950 is the good way to get CI/QE. For Nvidia, 6000series and 7000series. For ATI, X1000series and above. Btw, some might not work due to too much VRAM. That's quite troublesome.

Here's my Hackintosh (Leopard) screenshot tongue.gif

actually there isnt really a geforce go driver that supports CI/QE yet. its still in developement. that being said, macvidia and titan drivers doesnt work for geforce go cards.

my vaio is c2d 2.0ghz, 2gb ddr2 ram, 120hdd, 7600 go.

im planning to sell my vaio in a couple of months and get a mbp or something.

right now, there is no hope for my vaio yet.

anyway which release of leopard do you have?

i have a A527, but theres already a newer release almost close to RTM.
*
oh.. my bad.. Cos' i tot lappy nvidia gc should work, except 8000series. That one sure hopeless.

Ya. A527. Kalyway version. I lazy go dl those ori dmg. And it require you to patch yourself. Waste time and hdd space. Hmm.. 599 version still so-so. It fix two issues, PPC stuff and HP drivers. Btw A527 consider quite stable.

PS: Great lappy. Too bad mbp is out of my budget. So only can choose mb. Hmm, probably you could wait till next year, cos' probably will have next revision mb/mbp

actually i am waiting till next year, there will be a new mb, not sure about the mbp tho. maybe next month i'll try to install leopard and see how it goes. btw whats your pc specs?
*
yea.. it supported G4 and G5. G3 kena dumped cos too slow. biggrin.gif

I hope got santa rosa mb. If now i buy, it kinda a waste, cos' buying last year stuff, i hate that GMA950. Damn it. vmad.gif

My pc rig is PD2.66, 768mb DDR, 6800XT. I think the rest of the stuff no need to mention. biggrin.gif Low-budget rig btw sweat.gif

Hey guys, my Dell Inspiron 1420 is coming in a few days and i'm interested in this Hackintosh biggrin.gif but GeForce 8series graphic card won't work?
*
yep. it won't work for QE/CI. That's mean you only can surf the net and do some word processing. You can't play video, games and those cool animation, in addtion, you might feel quite lag and not smooth rolleyes.gif

2. that means A B partition .
A is windows xp .
B is OS X .

A cannot read B .
but B can read A .
*
yep. But then you can install 3rd party software like macdrive.. Then, A can read/write B. But B can only read A. Remember that, in osx, cannot write NTFS. You need install ntfs-3g to enable to write, but it's unstable. Sometimes might cause error. wink.gif

i second junkieG question ... really want to know .
no need macpro ler , bt somewhere near imac also can d .

choose asus mainboard, core2duo, 2gb ddr2 ram, nvidia 7000series graphic card and whatever size hdd space. Sth like that...

Btw, just choose intel core2duo for the processor and for the mainboard, it should be okay for any brand but must be intel chipset la. Ntg much really. If you mention laptop, then really will cause some headache if you're out of luck wink.gif
