Hi I am from Sarawak and I’m planning to buy my first car in this year . Currently working in sg now so it’s a hassle to go down JB since border is closed hopefully will be better in coming months. I have a close relative whom working in Toyota Kuching and he told me that I can do loan processing in JB and to collect car in Kuching .

1. May I know if for VW can I do the same ? To buy in JB and to collect in Kuching .

2. Can you list out both pros and cons reasons to buy ? Imho I do really like PASSAT in terms of design , comfort , solid looking , a lot functions but it lose some safety function whereas Camry you got safety sense and most of the safety feature that apply in daily use .

3. Is VW has a lot of problems after sometime compare to Toyota ? How much maintenance per year estimately ?

3. If it’s for you which would you prefer ?

Anyone has friends that work in both car shop can you intro to me if you’re keen .

2. Japanese car and Conti cars - the feel is really different. I guess you're gravitating towards the NVH part and the refinement part. For sure VW Passat would lag behind a Camry in safety features.
3. Yes, it does and it affect its resale value significantly. After 7 years, look into RM3K repair yearly.
4. Matter of personal choice, not definite right or wrong. Owning a Conti(nental) car means you need to have another (more reliable) car on standby. That's why I pair up one (Jap) Mazda witha a VW for my household.

Camry is a bit overprice at 188k. It didn’t sit well on me. Maybe it’s just me.
Contrary, Passat is a fantastic car but less reliable. Expect to pay 50-100% extra in maintenance compare to Camry. But u get to enjoy the ride day in and day out.
