Oh my.

So this new is true then.

So many affected in this trying times.  sad.gif

But i wonder what went wrong?
IBM makes computer & chips ya? What’s the nature of their business really?
*
Servers Z,I,P, X series, software, lotus notes, POS, ATM, PC and laptop. IBM cyber is call centre mainly for ASEAN region providing 24*7 or 9*5. Most of the staff on contract like intel, amd & most US companies, subbed to employment agencies. Many jilat US think US talks abour rights and very good but in reality, many of their companies prefer contract based, can easily dispose workers and close without paying compensation.

server I, X series, pc, laptop sold to lenovo
lotus notes sold to HCL
POS ATM stopped long time ago

since ~4yrs ago IBM already reducing contract worker, hired those essential as permanent
but still, many kena sold to Lenovo ~2yrs back, along with some of the business
*
That explains why they can't survive coz less companies use mainframe z series nowadays. Sounds like IBM got robbed by Lenovo and left with nothing. Hope Intel got robbed by PRC next then we'll get to buy cheap intel CPU & Nvidia (bought by intel) GPU.

Nope.. banking still use mainframe a lot.
To cut cost, they just move from z/os to z/linux.

still IBM money maker..
1 Mainframe sold let the seller off for 1yrs holiday..

Not sure about current price. In late 90's AS400 was about rm500k, mainframe over Rm1million. Today mainframe Z series berapa?

its IBM own bet, they gamble on future of business being clouds and services rather than hardware
*
Clouds store vital info in overseas, undersea cable issue won't get access anymore. Hackers or internal espionage would steal those info. During MCO last year, whole world experience slow access including banks. They want to shift everything to US on virtual?

With emperor II, i think close to 4 million...HW alone
Hasnt include the sw licensing + services
*
Whoah, that's more than 4x the price of I series. How long does a bank change server by the way? UOB for instance will buy server when when they get new branch or expansion, they use ZIP series, all 3 also have. Mainframe buy new after 5 or 10 years?

What happen to their CISCO division?

Are you IBMer CE from newer generation or older generation?ex-IBMer?

Depend on EOL ( Tech Refresh). branch usually no need server.. centralized server will be on HQ Prod.

Not a CE, Ex IBM consultant..

Switch/SystemX sold to Lenovo . BNT network

Great, confirmed you're IBMer. Thanks for the info. You are likely with tmn tun if you're old timer, newer batch next to 1U and get to see Cadbury Mondelez neighbours. You full time, not with Adecco. Cyberjaya under manpower or permanent.

Not that old.. when i joined already at BU..
Yap... White badge.. not yellowmm.

Last for 6-7yrs there.. IBM give me alot opportunity..
Mostly training in Austin/Rochester/Poughkeepsie..
Sad to see they cant adapt fast enough.

I know it hard if u have 300k people in the organization.

You sure gain lots of market value there especially the exclusivity on handling the IBM technical parts that vendors are begging for detailed information. Numbers of CE landed good pay jobs elsewhere after working with IBM several years taking as much info they could get.
