How is it illegal to record calls between yourself and another person/party?

If this is illegal, then a lot of financial institutions and companies will run afoul of it as they record calls for customer queries and complaints.

And what of disputes involving car accidents, neighbours, etc.? Because we all know that the offending party can feign ignorance or deny whatever was agreed verbally between them and the victim. Even if the offending party consents to either a voice or video recording, they wouldn't be dumb enough to incriminate themselves when they know that they're being recorded.

Not to say that I advocate the recording of private conversations, including intimate ones, but when it comes to matters involving harassment and disputes, at least you've covered yourself in these cases. Otherwise, why are in-car recorders and CCTVs created in the first place?

I'm using China MIUI and the caller app have built-in call recording feature.

By the way, a lot of of people are also not aware that using phone recording as "evidence" in court most of the time, won't help. After 2019-03-09 all recorders in Google Play are forbidden from asking for the following 2 permissions:

android.permission.PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS
android.permission.READ_CALL_LOG

Boldbeast had to remove these 2 permissions from the app published in Google Play, just as all other recorders did. As a result, in most phones the app can no longer obtain telephone numbers, so calls will be saved as "Unknown".
in a few phones the system may not notify the recorder part of the events like "a incoming call is ringing", "a outgoing call is dialing", "the call is offhook", "the call is hung up" etc, so the app may have wrong information about a call. For example it may save a call as an outgoing call but actually it's an incoming call.

Because of this New Google Play Rule, all recorders in Google Play suffer the same pain with no exception.
