Just get my D40x last week and experiment with some shot, please comment and advice

Yeah the Myvi looks underexposed, were you metering on the black portion or white portion of the Myvi? Seems like you were metering the white portion. What metering were you using? Spot or Dynamic?

bro, it's a Savvy. i made a mistake too

is it because the focus point on bright spot make the camera set the exposure compensation too low?

this Autosaloon really disappoint, most are perodua and proton car with silly bodykit. Any recommendation what place in KL area good for shooting landscape and macro photo?

set to lower aperture try... somemore can bokeh the background...

everywhere u can take landscape and macro shot.. it juz up to ur imagination..

Try shooting from different angles for the car overall shots. A little closer and lower maybe.. the cars would look much more aggressive.

Use the histogram whenever you shoot so that you can see it if it is underexposed.

Haha I am the king of underexposed shots when I started shooting with the D40

i'm still d king of underexpose...

Hmm i felt i prefer underexposed shots from the D40. Dont forget that when exp settings in 0, it can be slighty overexposed at times.

I think you can recompose the picture of the guy taking a break. Use the rule of thirds

And he isn't smoking! Either that or I can't see the ciggy

er...can blur the back ground mar...and more light can enter... dunno work or not...hehe...

From ur current series taken on aug31, via the expose is good, ur compo really went out. Wrong or nonstrategic place huh?

nonstartegic location. this was happen to me once. 2nd trip i go quit far from picc and i happy with my pictures.

btw. this firework belong to Japan rite

the location is to near to the firework so not getting all the firework in frame, also the smoke mess up most of the other photo

Your last pic looks creative.

I think the shots of the children playing in the water will be better if you are closer. Or you crop closer so that it looks zoomed in

the last pic looks so familiar....

Take some pics of KLCC during the evening/night. I bet it will looked alot better.

hei i was there too. During the model shot did i saw a guy using a D40/D40X with a 55-200 lens, is that u?

Hello, Travis, nice to see you there as well. But there were too many people there that made me leave abruptly during the shoot and then went for lunch instead.

Hmm on ur fashion pics the compo is out. Perhaps considerfindinga good spot to stand and take ur shots or get a zoom lens. The 55-200 VR is worthy ur consideration. I like ur last pic with then kid on the stage though

The KLCC wise, not bad, but did u make it blurry in purpose?

the kid is new talent being develop by model agency , the blurry one i turn the focus ring during exposure

most of your klpf pics are blurred... must work on your "in body VR" hahah hand stable abit, breathe out, stay relaxed, slowly press. hahaha

need to work on your composition.

can give example based on any of the photo?

ok. let's say picture 1.

it's a nice flower with water droplets on it. what you can do is to have a higher angle that shows more of the petal and the water while look for a background that's less distracting.

picture 2, it's not a nice angle as you're highlighting the stems or whatever not so nice part of the flower. you should highlight the beauty, not the ugly part unless that's your intention.

as for the cat (picture 3), i understand that it's not easy to wait for such a moment, it'll be great if you could go behind the cat (or in front).

picture 4 and 5. you know la. pointless photos to load.

thanks for you suggestion will try again next time, the problem is the cat run away every time i came close with a camera, need a telephoto if not want to scare the cat.

how about this one, is it better this way?

i find it very hard to focus on object that are too close, is this a limitation of the of the kit lens?

must better composition, then you have to adjust exposure also.

and yes, kit lens has it's limitations.

Try to look at other ppl's photolog on flowers. Get the overall pic of the flower to show full effective to improve composition.

I like ur pic no 1 the most, showing some signs of petaling street we dont see often, like that forgoten barbershop. Will be better if u can take the pic inside, provided if its still open.

Pic 2 is amusing but best put for those daily picture competition in Thestar, haha
