QUOTE(brandonkl @ Feb 25 2021, 11:46 AM) For digital / smart locks, which is better? I am deciding among Bosch, Samsung or Phillips. Can't really decide Of the three only Samsung has more "expertise" in this area. However if I were to change my utec u bolt pro (which I don't recommend), I will probably go for Yale |

Selection of digital lock is not limited to brand only, we should also compare the model offered by the brands.
Samsung is well reputable who has been in digital lock market long enough in Korean. However, some models are prone to mainboard failure and fast battery draining issue. Some models require experienced locksmith to make nice cut out from your door. Philips, with its locks mostly rebranded from well established China brand, Kaadas. The locks are good. Bosch is quite new to the digital lock market. No comment because there is not many reviews on their models. Yale in Malaysia has most models rebranded from its sister company, Gateman. Gateman is deemed to be the most popular and robust digital lock brand in Korea. It has fewer features (or gimmicks) but the lock quality is really superb! |

QUOTE(adamw @ Feb 25 2021, 06:48 PM) In general, Kaadas is fine.As a brand, I dislike the practice that they were promoting themselves as German lock initially. However, it seems not much reviews on inferior quality for this brand. In short, Kaadas produces quality lock. As for models, those on sales in Malaysia are older series. Those in China are much more advanced.. Or some may claim gimmick features. Please evaluate your requirements. For example, some people prefer wifi feature but I'm against it because it's a rarely used feature and yet serious battery drainer. Some ask for fully automatic lock but I prefer semi auto for better motor lifespan and battery performance. |

QUOTE(steve1703 @ Feb 26 2021, 12:03 AM) Honestly, I don't have hand-on experience on Xiaomi and Aqara locks earlier.Neither for my friends or relatives too. Perhaps, some of the lyners here can answer the product reliability or quality. Xiaomi locks are rebranded from another China lock maker, "Loock". Both Xiaomi and Aqara locks are considered entry level digital locks in China. Some people may think if it spoils, they can replace with another and yet cheaper than many other locks. As I emphasized earlier, please also research for model instead of brand only. When looking at brand, we want future product compatibility, support and more user reviews. When looking at model, we want product features, reliability and robustness. Tier 1 brand may also produce inferior lock model. It can be caused by design flaw instead of material quality. For example, some push pull locks have risk to hurt your hand. Please use with care. |

QUOTE(adamw @ Feb 26 2021, 11:56 PM) This will happen when the gap between the push&pull lock handle and door frame is too narrow.Common "bug" for push&pull lock with the 60mm or shorter latch length 70mm is better but lock is more expensive and installation may be more difficult. For common Malaysia door (swing in from outside or push to open), it has less chance to happen but can still happen. And if we are used to it, the chance of hurting your hand is lower too but please be mindful for visitors and kids. ![]() The lock with lever handle does not suffer this issue because the design is implicitly forcing us to use same hand and further from the door frame. Of course, Push&pull lock's design look aesthetically better. |

So don't use push pull lock if you have a fat hand Common "bug" for push&pull lock with the 60mm or shorter latch length 70mm is better but lock is more expensive and installation may be more difficult. QUOTE(adamw @ Feb 27 2021, 02:07 PM) This is typical issue for push&pull lock regardless of fully auto or semi auto.In general, the chances to happen are still low if we are used to the lock. If the chances are high, then those products will never exist anymore in the market. To have fully peace of mind, you may get the lever handle type. |
