Hello guys, I got some issue regarding my RX 580 8GB which suddenly that GPU cannot boot and Windows recognized it as RX470 when I boot using Integrated Graphics.

Eventhough its recognized as RX470, it cannot being used and result of GPU-Z will shown the BIOS are unknown and most details are '0'. The GPU fan are spinning and the blue light appeared as usual when the pin connected.
I bought this GPU online and use it for almost 1 year already, but I didnt know either they flash it or not since I didnt check it before since its running good as usual.

I attached GPU-Z result below :

Ive tried using DDU and reinstall using AMD driver but as usual, Windows keep detect it as RX470 and not working at all.

Besides, eventhough the AMD driver installation successful, before/after restart if we try to open AMD software, notification 'No AMD Graphic drivers is installed or AMD driver is not functioning properly'.

Ive tried also using atikmdag-patcher (patch successful & signed) and reboot but its still remain the same with unknown BIOS and '0' memory/clock information.
Ive also tried using ATIFlash trying to flash the BIOS but 'error reading ROM' appeared, not even getting to the software main interface.

Is this GPU already 'dead' or any way to 'save' it ? This suddenly occured since I didnt flashed/change anything regarding the GPU till this issue occured.

Any solution/replies/thoughts from you guys , I appreciate it.

Did you look up the serial on the back of the card when buying? You could have bought a rx470 in the first place. And the pic says 4gb but i assume you just pulled a random pic. If you can, pull out the card and look up the serial.

Yes. The serial number UIB004124. Ive download RX580 drivers without any issue for around 1 years though and keeps updating using AMD driver software.

Both rx580 and rx470 uses the same drivers

What might’ve happened Is you bought a rx470 bios flashed to appear as a rx580

TS try reseat the card? GPU-Z cant detect the memory size/type/clock on the GPU.

check if the GPU PCB indicate anything to RX580 or RX480?

high chances the card is having issue.

even if its flashed to rx580, thats not the real issue.

The real issue, its not booting and not working properly. Even Windows detect it as RX470, it still wont work.

Could be an ex-mining card hmm.gif

You might want to ask whether Armand666 can fix this hmm.gif

IINM, you might want to use a BIOS flasher to flash the card, if you cannot flash the VBIOS by normal means:

That being said, it is best to ask Armand666 and check whether the card is fixable, or otherwise icon_idea.gif

chances are your card is dead pal

just get a new gpu laugh.gif laugh.gif

but then in this market quite impossible to find a gpu so try cleaning up the PCB using electrical contact cleaner and try again

Do a cleanup for ur card.
remove the heatsink reapply thermal paste..
Check for component missing or not. capacitor or resister..
clean the X16 pins and the pins from the motherboard.

Buy the PCB cleaner from Mr.DIY.. spray kao kao let the cleaner drain 1 side to another side and down to the drain... spot cleaning does not help ya.. soak it.. tekan spray for 10seconds or longer..

Try new power cable... the 6pin power. if u using molex.. try different cables/ connector

good luck...

Edited: Typo & add on

Haha. Ive bought a new bundle PC set since GPU price are quite irrelevant right now. But still its better if this GPU can be recovered.

Another option is to put the pcb in the oven for about 5-10 mins
But just the pcb without the cooler

Managed to make a RX470 Red Devil started working again with this

Since u now have a new PC it’ll be worth a try

info for TS as not sure how well verse TS is, but if want to try "baking" the gpu, please make sure that one will not cook any food anymore in the oven after baking a gpu.
gpu contains different metal elements and plastics, and may be harmful if mixed with food to be eaten.

having said that, if have a proper heatgun, set temp to 230 celcius and have a go at the gpu die. Youtubers have done these... i've tried 4 times and failed once. success 3 times. All old gpus that dont mind throwing away.

You realise yourself have bought the China exclusive RX 580 with only 2048 shaders ? Actually GPU-Z is correct also, it is equivalent to an RX 470.
RX580 for all other market have 2304 shaders. That is why when you go flash an RX580 BIOS into it, you get error.
Maybe try flashing the correct BIOS again. Remember yours is a 2048SP version, not the 2304SP ones .

But I will say, most likely your VRAM is shot.

If everything else don't work, maybe you wanna try if you really got nothing to lose anymore
