.: Lowyat's WPrime Hall of Fame :.

wPrime is a benchmarking application designed to use a highly multithreaded approach to calculating the square-roots of large amounts of numbers (up to 32 billion at this stage!)

Brief WPrime Info:
wPrime uses a recursive call of Newton's method for estimating functions, with f(x)=x2-k, where k is the number we're sqrting, until Sgn(f(x)/f'(x)) does not equal that of the previous iteration, starting with an estimation of k/2. It then uses an iterative calling of the estimation method a set amount of times to increase the accuracy of the results. It then confirms that n(k)2=k to ensure the calculation was correct. It repeats this for all numbers from 1 to the requested maximum.

2. Our aim was to make a perfectly threaded benchmark, such that it would consistantly use 100% of the CPU while in use. This is achieved by using the WMI to detect the CPU count and use exactly that many processing threads to avoid any performance losses due to multiple threads running on any single physical thread. Each thread is designed to do 1/n of the work, where n is the number of threads. For example, if you're calculating 16 roots on 4 CPU's, each CPU will calculate 4 roots. Some might argue that this style of threading is unrealistic in real-time performance, but in fact is quite indicative of performance in several real world tasks such as [email protected] which allows you to run several instances of the work at any one time.

Contribute your Results! ..

'Here is the procedure.. :

1. Download WPrime V1.53(546K) : http://www.wprime.net/download.html
2. Register to Wprime Website (Hwbot.org) using similar username in Lowyat Forum - http://www.hwbot.org/register.do
Official Hwbot.org Team for this thread = Lowyat's Overclockers
3. Do the Benchmark 32M or 1024M or Both
4. Submit scores - to validate Checksum
5. Validation : Post link of benchmark results from hwbot.org and screenshot of Wprime results here at this thread!

Rules:
1. User can submit as many results as they want but only validated results from hwbot are taken and only the fastest are noted here. To Keep things interesting and competitive only the best of 10 on each categories are noted.
2. This is a 'benchmarking thread' no flaming are allowed. Stick to the topic please.
3. All type of machine which can run Wprime are accepted. Please be honest no tweaks and no cheating.
4. Thread Starter have the right to dissallow results which are not validated by Hwbot server.

anyway,i created a new team at hwbot there.

the team name is

"Malaysia's Tech Enthusiast"

pls add urself into there so that we have a database over there!!!

and i can see that quad core is having a lot of benefit there. thumbup.gif

from what i can see, the wPrime is more intro CPU stressing rather than the ram...got the cpu and ram utilisation on the sidebar. from that, i can see that when i fired up the apps, the cpu utilization was being max to 100% but the ram utilization barely move.

As already known.. wprime are a multithread CPU processing benchmark. The more efficient your multithreading procssor then the faster u finish the calculations. From HWBot vault we can see Xeons are excellent and efficient multithread processors. Im curious to see how well Barcelona/Phenom are at WPrime.. hmm.gif
