Hello! Anyone here applied for Petronas GEES 2021 intake? They opened the application near the end of January and now its almost the end of February. I’m making this topic just to ask if anybody reading this also applied? And has anybody heard back from Petronas?

Just want to make sure ☹️ If they have released the namelist for the participants, then at least I can stop waiting 😞

Not at all. I said waiting because from what I’ve read, they usually start reaching out to selected participants the month after the closing date of application, which is this month 😅 so I’m just waiting to know if got accepted for the programme. But I haven’t seen anyone talking about it at all so...

And I actually applied to soooo much companies, privates, governments, gov agencies, GLCs, etc.. honestly I can’t even count how many jobs I have applied for.. but not even one replied back to me.. most probably because I am a fresh grad with no experience apart from internship, so these PROTEGE programmes are my number one hope now 😩

Might be due to the current situation but apply on all the job portals, get on linkedin start connecting with recruiters and start chatting with as many people as you can find.
Don't sit there and wait for a response. Actively pursue instead of waiting.

When it come to Petronas recruitment drive, be it permanent, direct hire or contract (via agency), it will take a long long long time to get response.

Yeah think so too.. its just unfortunate that I graduated at a time like this.. but yes I am still actively scrolling through jobstreet and linkedin right now, looking for anything suitable with my field of study I am working a part-time job and freelancing so that my family won’t get mad at me for only eating up all the food at home 😅 so yeah I am desperate to get a full time job so I won’t be a burden to then anymore 😞

Yeah heard that too.. takes years if you applied for any job through their website.. but for this GEES, I applied through website and also a google form provided in an advertisement on facebook.. maybe that person is a friend of someone in Petronas, idk haha.. its just a bit frustrating that we fresh graduates keep getting stuck like this 😢

I'm wondering the same thing as well. I applied for the Petronas GEES programme in Mid January. Until now, still havent heard a peep from them.

A friend of mine applied for TNB Protege last week because he missed the Petronas deadline...Now he says he already got a pre-screening for TNB. Crazy fast lah. Meanwhile we PETRONAS GEES applicants still waiting here like...bruh.

Hai Amir, i just heard from a friend that the first intake will start sometime in April, not sure the exact date yet.. hopefully we will get accepted 😭 do let me know if you have heard news from petronas ya

And you can let your friend know that he can still apply for GEES in their website if he is still interested.. they are opening application for second intake now which starts in August maybe..

Really? Thats great news! My friend was aiming for Petronas in the first place. Definitely will give him the heads up about this.

I just got an email from Petronas confirming that they've received my application. Now just gotta fill in an Online Form and send in the required documents. I wish the same to you as well, friend. I hope we all get accepted into the program.

Reallyyyy??? Awhh lucky youuu.. did the email mention the starting date for the training? Because with the covid situation now, I think the class training will be different than usual. And may I know how you applied for GEES? Was it through their website or through a google form?

It doesnt say when, unfortunately. However, it does say that the latest you can expect to get an offer letter is by 31st March. If you didnt get anything by 30 April, then it means you didnt get shortlisted.
I applied through the Petronas Career portal btw.

Congrats Amir! Did the email ask you to fill in your interest or give them your resume or something like that? Or they already gave you the department and all that stuff? I heard that because of covid, they don’t have class trainings anymore, so you will start with OJT right away.

Yeah im really waiting for response from any of these protege programmes now.. if i can’t get any, then i have to sort out to applying for jobs with SPM or Diploma qualifications 😅

Thanks, but I didnt get any Offer Letters (yet). Email just asks you to submit CV and Transcript, along with your Course Code. They let you write down your preferred OTJ location. IMO they will probably assign you to the departments based on your relevant courses. I believe they still have Virtual classroom trainings, so we still have to go through it.

Urrmm... I actually have already filled in a form like that back in January, if I’m not mistaken, the name of the form was ‘Registration of Interest’ or something like that.. and yeah I had to rename the files submitted according to the format that they had given, with the course code and stuff.. at that time I did not know it was for shortlisted candidates because it didn’t say so on the google form 😅

So now I’m even more frustrated because I don’t know if I’m actually shortlisted for real or nah 😩

Anyone received the petronas gees name list? I heard from my friend saying that his friend had received the gees offer for this April in fire safety department.

No news yet. Did HR call his friend before releasing the offer letter? Wondering what is the exact starting date in April?

Might need to prepare in advance (accommodation, transport, and so on) if they release the offer letter on short notice (hopefully). Congrats to his friend btw!

I just received call from Petronas yesterday and luckily I'm shortlisted. They might start to contact candidate on this week bcs the earliest date is actually 31st March 2021.

What does HR told you? Can you share a little bit? Did they email you the offer letter?

Woww didn’t expect for petronas to actually call.. because i asked someone on linkedin who is currently a gees apprentice and she said that petronas never called her, they straight up sent her the offer letter through email.

Hi! Based on the requirements written, you have to be a fresh graduate unemployed for 6 to 12 months. And i think you have to be between 18 to 26 years of age. But I have heard that a lot of people selected for the programme have been working for quite some and they have to resign in order to join GEES. Thats why a lot of people rejected the offer to join GEES

Chances to get absorbed by the company? I don't think it's a wise decision to resign a permanent job to join this 12 months so called OJT with no guarantee future employment. I just wondered how many participants for this coming intake? If let's say 50 participants per batch with 3 people getting absorbed by the company.. Wao it's still competitive. IMO better look for or stay at your current permanent job instead of joining this.

Hi Minana, why don't you try to apply shell graduate program? If u get the offer I think chances to get absorbed into shell is way higher than petronas gees. Also, u gonna have the chance to travel all around the world just for training.

I have searched for it and unfortunately it seems like they are not interested in IT Multimedia graduates.. most of the courses they need are engineering courses and some for business.. welp just not my luck i guess 😅

Second this. Take note on the fixed salary for this program also.

Seemed like a lot of candidate put up a high salary expectation in their resume when applying this, plus some are even already employed (no harm to try anyway).

I think if experience is what you're looking for, do apply.

For OJT, no. You have to find your own place to stay if its far away from home. But for the class training, they will provide accomodations and food for the whole 2 months.

I just received offer letter from petronas yesterday. They call me before this on feb asked my availability. Then 2 weeks after that I received offer letter from them.

The exact date will be start on 1st April. Report duty and onboarding session will be held online. Yes, theyre offer me department that related to my degree, its finance department.

Aaaa i see.. is it fully OJT for 12 months or do you have to attend soft skills classes too? And is it fully WFH or will you be able to go to work in office? Waaah so many questionsss im so curiousss

I just received a call from Petronas yesterday. HR said the 1st intake will be started on 1st April and for 2nd intake in July.

I send Resume as my CV. I put all important information in 1 page only. For me (as fresh graduate), I don't have more work experience. If I do I will make a CV more than 1 page (in detail).

Unfortunately they didn’t. They only attached few documents and my offer letter. They did mentioned that the programme will starts on 1st April.

Not to break your spirit but having petronas on your resume is good but basically you are going to be cheap labor. My friend's son join protege (not sure similar to GEES) back in 2019 and after completion, he did not get hired. For almost 1 year looking for job here & there and finally landed a job in pertama ferroalloy.

I received the offer letter from GEES as well. Idk was it a bad decision for me to take it since I left my current employment for just a "training" program. But I had always wanted to be in the field and even with knowing i will be "Cheap labour" I still took the offer. I wondering anyone that did completed GEES (and not other proteges programs), were they hired after this program ended? And if not did it really not make a positive impact in their career direction?

It depends on the company, not every company is the same. And I think everyone who applied for this programme already knows that Petronas never guaranteed employment after the contract ends, they literally stated that in their website. In the end, it depends on the person’s performance and vacancy in the company, also a lil bit of luck.

I am just grabbing whatever chances and opportunities that I get because only the Lord and people in the same shoes as me can understand how difficult it is for us to get jobs right now, so we are just doing whatever we can to survive at least we have jobs and can earn some income for at least a year, while waiting for the pandemic to pass

There’s no definite answer to your question imo.. it depends on your mindset honestly.. was your previous job satisfactory to you? Was it what you always wanted to pursue? What about the salary? Was it waaayy more than GEES’s allowance? Did Petronas offer you something that fits your dream career’s job scope? Or at least something along the lines, it doesn’t have to be exactly what you want now cause you can always climb your way up, but also sometimes our preference and interest just change over time. If you really wanna up your chances of getting hired, then you really gotta give it your all, good performance and luck of having vacancy in the department, and you might be getting some good news soon!

I took the job because at that time I needed a job to sustain. It was a good offer, a graduate program actually. But it was totally unrelated to my field. The salary..was wayyyyyy more. hahaahaha. I was on probation, but had permanent staff benefits. Everything was good from the benefits to salary. BUT the field was never what i wanted. I am not performing in it even after 4 months.. but it was a good experience trying something out of my field. When i got the PETRONAS gees, I didnt think twice because working in PETRONAS was always my ambition. The positoin they assigned is abit baffling, project cost controller? But its okay, I am willing to learn and try my best..

Yeah honestly if you’re okay with the job scope, then I see no problem with it.. because personally, I would rather pursue something I’m passionate about and get less wage, rather than doing something that i hate but get a lot of money from it.. cause we’re gonna be working for a loongg time, not just a year or two.. but idk this is just my opinion, one person.. a random person on the internet 😂 you should also ask someone else who you trust too, like parents or friends

In your opinion, after a year of training as project cost control, would it be easy to jump to another place as project engineer? Since it is still under the project management branch?

Im not qualified to answer your query. All i can say is project control falls under project planning, and to master planning i.e. understanding the project work flow etc. you need to be hands on i.e. being on site and learn the process e.g why task A require 3 days to complete why task B require 2 days to complete. From there you move up to become planner / project control then can become project manager since you already understand the process.
My take is that since you are new in the job market, to gain more technical knowledge, working with the vendors i.e. construction contractors (since your background is civil eng) is better in the long run to shape your technical competence.
Not saying working in pet is bad, its good but in the long run it grooms you to become manager but not a better technical person. What do managers do? they delegate, delegate & delegate. Not much technical competency is required depends on your skill group.
