i've owned 2pairs of Ksc75 for a coupla years now although both share litttle listening time as i'd differenct cans to play with plus im not so hot about earclips as i do find them atad uncomfortable (mayhaps irritating even after some prolonged wearing). anyways i finally have both pairs back in my hands after some serious (looking and sounding) mods by bro PCdude.

the gist of this post is that i found 1pair of K75s to have better, deeper and more impactful bass on top of being less grainy than the other pair. i've discussed at some length PCdude about this phenomenon and whether its all just my imagination. it turns out that bro PC have not only had loads of experience of K75s innards (thru his mod services), he's even touched the membrane of these things.

bottomline is accord to bro PC, the membrane of this particular K75 is softer and hence more flexible than others. he told me that he's only encountered 1other example of this particular K75 phenomenon. when i 1st did a brief comparo with my newly acquired PK1 to my other mod-recabled K75, i could swear that the PK1s are superior. bro PC oso agreed when he tried my PK1s lastweek.

then came this final K75 to be super mod'd by him and he told me at delivery that this particular K75 sounded great paired with a PPAv2. sure enuff i went home and did some listening and comparos with the PK1. my present conclusion...this particular K75 is equilavent to the PK1s to my ears atleast. the superiority of this particular K75 to my other identically modded K75 is not subtle IMO. needless to say, i'll be keeping this super K75 for a longwhile!

anyone else experienced the samething?

ps:FWIW i've oso heard from EFN that his bud's old (5-10yr old K75) sounded much superior to him against the newer models.

wow, modded KSC75 = PK1? You can still sell it without losing too much scottie! brows.gif Maybe one day I should put my itchy hands on my K701's innards, perhaps with my nasty fingers they will sound similar to a K1000 tongue.gif

Sallute to you bro Pcwork, its a great achievement nevertheless nod.gif

depending on how u look at it, it can be said its awesome that a cheapie true budget can like the K75* can be brought to this level of performance. another view would be that its simply amazing that a 'bud' with belakang mati looks can sound this big with this level of ability.

O btw, no guarantees on what mite happen if u start rubbing the your K701s membrane. u mite get a hot looking genie of the headfons or u mite get a goat or most likely, u turn yourself on wub.gif who knows...u may find out u dont need a woman at all rolleyes.gif ?? nows the time to find out nod.gif . goodluck bud brows.gif .

*do note that this applies only to this particular K75 and not the regular models. i do happen to have another set of identically modded K75 and it does not perform to this level. crazy aint it??? doh.gif

no dount , i found that modded ksc75 sound really great, and it have the air feeling as it is an open cans, the sound is so superb while pairing with ksc75, u will be fly without u urself know it.

and i have tried the pk1 yesterday, i was really that shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif shocking.gif , which i had the same feeling like the first time i test the modded ksc75+ ppav2, but i do have to admit that, pk1 delivered more details and better feeling, the signatures is totally diff, so i really dont know how to compare it.

but both are super worth.
pcdude, u really done a superb job.

Hehe, i just met with bro PC and tested his 'revived from death' punya KSC75 and the recabled KSC75 (and other bunch of headphone, i like the 580 so much wub.gif can see the smile just appear on my face when the vocal part started wub.gif )

The 'revived from death' punya ksc75 have a deeper bass than the recabled ksc75. and the high part is not as bright as recabled ksc75. and i'm so honored that he even open it up and gave me touch the membrane (lol, should i tell this? tongue.gif) but of course he got warn lo to be careful and stuffs.. freaking soft membrane, i also scare i spoil it..

The recabled ksc75 pair up with his diy cmoy + interconnector really sounds great (the performance on the metallica song really surprise me, and of course pawn 580 miles away in metallic songs). Anyway when compare side by side (580 with recabled ksc75) with vocal song, ksc75 doesn't loss too much to 580.. what a sweet experience with all his black widows.. thumbup.gif and really learn many things from him notworthy.gif

Added on August 26, 2007, 4:40 pmOh ya, and i got my sleeved cable from him ..really superb workmanship smile.gif

lol.. looks like this thread is discuss about me rather than ksc75?
hahaha
another pair of ksc75 which have superb bass is owned by coolerthings. =)
and the one i remove the voice coil and power them up again does sound like it.
however, i think, there might be two reason for that.
1. Burn in process. one that has superb bass always is the one that had been used at extended loud volume over a long run.
2. Batch different (which i think has the possibilities, but low.)

bro scott, why don't u burn in another pair with not so supreme performance over the listening volume for another 100 hours and let see the result by comparing both of them.

last a few night, i tried to open another spoil ksc75. which the voice coil is broken in the middle, (around 4 round from the begining).
so i took the voice coil out, detach it from membrane, and carefully pulled out the voice coil until the broken part.
in this process, i unavoidable have to touch the membrane for a lot of time.
then
after i fix the membrane to voice coil, i found out though a 0.1mm different will make the voice coil to touch the magnet, and it will sound bass less.
so. i have to repeat the whole things again, detach everythings, and reattach the voice coil to membrane, then the whole membrane to ksc75 spider.
ok
after several hours of continues mess with the driver, the paint on the ksc75 membrane is fade off...so... what do i get?

i had got myself a super duper heavy bass ksc75. no kidding that the particular ksc75 bass is actually as deep as my modded hp890.

Experiment Methodology Used :
currently, i have two driver that's dead and repaired.

first driver lets call it A-R. it's a right driver. which is the driver i posted picture for the first time i get my hand on voice coil, and it's my own KSc75 after 8 times of recable that i finally burned the voice coil.
and another driver is A-L. which is totally normal driver that comes in a pair with A-R and i had never operated A-L.

and another driver B-L, which is from elh82 that he send two pair of ksc75 for me to repair, one pair is done recable and return to him, and there's a problem on the second pair. Before i actually recable it, i test the driver with multimeter and found out that the driver is burned in the voice coil. (after operation it's confirmed that the voice coil is burned around 4 round from the beginning of the voice coil).so i told him that his voice coil is dead. so he give up with the ksc75 and he had give it to me.
this is the driver that i had open so many time, and repair it. and this is the specific driver that has super bass now. so it's matching pair is B-R. right driver from elh82

Result:
A-L + A-R =
1. on both stock cable and recabled, each side sound similar to another side.while i find that my cable does sound better for the koss even compare to stax low capacitance cable... =P

B-L + B-R =
1. i had use B-L and B-R with stock cable , both have similar bass.
2. while i use B-L and B-R with my cable, B-L has much deeper bass. which is SO MUCH deeper and punchier than the B-R.

B-L+ A-R =
1. i still found that B-L has more bass no matter on stock cable, nor the custom cable i use for recable ksc75..

Results and Discussion
through every of my testing B-L has more bass no matter what i pair with, or what cable i used.
i can only make assumption that, the softness of the membrane, will directly influence the sound of the ksc75.
and imho, the softness of the membrane can be achieve after extensive vibration that can be done by extensive burn in (1000 hours maybe) and it will produce much smoother sound and heavier / deeper bass, provided we recable it.
i had tried to put back the specific driver back to the original cable, and the bass just gone.

Conclusion :
Due to B-L has more bass. hence the softness of the membrane no matter through physical contact, or continues burn in, will contribute to more bass. so it's safe to say that there's no batches different in term of bass production.
reason, B-R has less bass compare to B-L.

woot! dude ur explanation sounds like another of ur lively lectures on soil diversity!!! LOLz! regardless of whether its different batch or lotsa burn in or tender loving care, 1 K75 sure sounds bassier than the other.

FWIW bro EFN also mentioned about the better sonics of older K75s compared with recent models.
