Hi guys!

I would like to get a fresh coat of paint for my highrise unit of 990sqft. It has 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms. May I know how much would it cost me for mere labour to have my house painted? My thanks in advance!

Depends on who does the job..
Local chinese more expensive.. like around 2k...
But if foreigners like indon or bangla... Can range from 800 to 1200 like that...

1.5-2k.
Cheaper if no need to sand down anything.

If existing old paint is in good condition can just paint yourself. The work is not that hard but you are paying for the time between coats as paint needs time to dry off.

Thank you for the feedback! I have prompted quite a few and majority comes back to me between RM 1,500 and RM 1,700. Their scope of work includes the painting of internal wall, ceilings & security grill. It should be reasonable based on everyone's feedback.

Thanks again, guys!

I paint my outdoor house walls myself for the past 10 years (2 times after 5 years).
But when I am getting old, i will hire indons to do the painting for outdoor, but indoors I think I still can manage myself biggrin.gif

To be honest I don't know they finished the 20 L or not, but after the first layer, I noticed half was used.

My painter that I have engaged, started on Monday and completed the entire wall painting as of today. My unit is only 4 years of age, hence my painter told me it is unnecessary to use undercoat as the existing paint surface is still good. His workers have used up a total of 3 pails of 20L paint for the entire house with 2 layers top coat. These odourless paint alone cost me around RM 1,400 in total (I purchased the paint on my own from Nippon authorized dealer). I only choose single tone as to reduce wastages. That is not inclusive of the ceiling paint, 1x Nippon Matex 18L that I have purchased along with the Nippon gloss paint for the door and the grill.

It is a steal to be charged only at RM 1,500 inclusive of labour and paint as my total cost exceeds RM 3K in total.

1. hence my painter told me it is unnecessary to use undercoat
correct

2. total of 3 pails of 20L paint for the entire house with 2 layers top coat
correct, extrapolating from my 1 long wall in living room also took up 5L already

3. These odourless paint alone cost me around RM 1,400 in total
5L 98
60L 1176 if nippon easywash.
sounds about there (actually seems like paid extra for the odourless feature if the unit is not lived in whilst painting since the paint doesn't smell after it fully dried) tongue.gif

4. I only choose single tone as to reduce wastages
Careful planning won't really waste much if you go with 2-3 colours. If you have (in totality) unicorn or peacock variation of 7 colours and stuff like that then only it becomes a real big problem as a lot of half-used tubs will occur.

5. 1x Nippon Matex 18L that I have purchased
Economical white paint about 65-70 only for whole 20L. No need to worry about wastage. Can easily reuse elsewhere (other place with basic white wall) or donate away.

6.along with the Nippon gloss paint for the door and the grill
About 30 bucks per 1L (your pick of colour) per door and grille.
18-20 for clearance stocks (limited choice of colour)

Would suggest to keep a record of what colour codes you used so future repainting/touch up would be easier.

I'm poorfag so didn't really paint much. Total damage around RM200, I am the cinderella who painted everything. 1 wall RM98 + 1 door RM30 + putty RM20 + rollers, roller handle, paint tray and washi tape maybe RM40.

I only painted the yellow line - living room full solid wall about 8m x 3m (10ft) using about 4.5L easywash
So baseline, one full solid wall x 2 coats will need a 5L tub, RM98 (nippon easywash colour)

U can use the estimator based on wall area (those with windows and doors can be combined into one guesstimated wall) so calculate like a 3 sided room, 2 solid walls and 1 combined half-and-half for the sides with doors and windows.

As for the main door in pink (big fire door about 1.2m), used almost whole can of 1L gloss paint RM30 (nippon)
So baseline each door x 2 coats will use 1L tin

Grille already powder coat so no need to paint.
Not sure if yours is landed or apartment, you can guesstimate around 700ml to 1L for it (depends on design) per door size if its a landed where the grille spans more than one door.

I have a lot of shrinkage cracks here and there so that's also another reason why I didn't paint the whole unit. (White putty easier to do on white walls rather than having an ugly white mark in the middle of a coloured wall).
Still undecided on the colour to put for bedroom.
After all the putty work done - bringing the walls back to default white, just a 7L matex at RM35 will do.

The paints for full unit apartment should be around RM800-1200 depending on how much colour paint needed. Ceiling paint 20L matex won't cost much.

My mum is a better judge as she kept saying he is good. The paintwork is done with very little mess as the furniture and floors are well canvassed. They cleaned everything up today before leaving. I will send you his contact via private message.

Painted my wife's office last week, the paint cost me around RM100.00. Took me around 11 hours from 5pm till 4am to complete. Freaking tiring and my back hurts....getting old..lol.

All in all, including paint brushes, paint tray, painting tapes & plastic sheets to protect the flooring, it will likely set you back to around RM150 - 200 for a small bedroom.

Made a mistake, the first paint is too dark and luckily I only painted one side of it. Put down my brush, head back to paint shop to order 3 liter of paint that is 2 shade lighter. Decided to leave that wall alone and make a feature wall instead.

If you have the time, try do it yourself. It's fun and backbreaking....haha

Wah you even used plastic sheets for the floor biggrin.gif
Normally I'd just use the wider side of tabloid papers fully open, if you dilute with very minimal water 1-3% and use small roller, it doesn't splatter/drip everywhere.
I prefer small roller coz its lighter and more consistent between start to finish stroke (big roller tend to be overly wet at the beginning)

Lazy la. The paint these days no need to be diluted or else I have to apply 3 coats instead of 2. Using both small and big roll brush. Appreciate your advices, good for newbie to learn new shortcuts.

Sounds about there since ceiling is in scope. Walls not so backbreaking compared to ceilings.
