In most places I can get LTE signal no problem. But only in my office the connection is so bad its always H/3G, and it drops to E/No signal in the toilet. I work at KLCC btw. (Not very high, like lvl 20 only)

I'm using Umobile GX50 on a Samsung S10, is Umobile coverage bad there or is my office designed to block phone signals?

Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm not a tech person

concrete and metal block signal.
the 3g that you get is from the picocell repeater.
you should log a complain to mcmc, as coming end of year, will turn off 3g then you get nothing.

for umo you should turn on voice-over-wifi to complement the lack of coverage.
else... change telco

The glass shell of the building absorbs / reflect back most of the signals. And your phone signal back to the tower is attenuated as well, need both ways to degrade the connection.

Ah, Faraday cage at its subtlest. Complain to MCMC that the tower management isn't doing it's best to facilitate communication inside the tower. Complain to tower management to install LTE repeater inside the tower. Say loss of signal leads to loss of business opportunity leads to loss of income.

You can compare with your colleagues. For KLCC area most of them will likely be on maxis. The smaller the mhz number (850/900 > 1800/2600), the better for concrete penetration. It is likely that the tower has very awesome maxis/celcom reception because of licensing different frequency and/or preferential rights to place in-building antenna. Not to mention potential signal jamming at each telco's home grounds (conspiracy theory)

Try another telco & see how...
But I suspect it's more on Telco issue... U Mobile is famous for giving sub par services....

Also like some post above..
Since KLCC is "home ground" of Green color telco... Their HQ tower just beside The Twin tower.... Might jam others telco signals & boost their own... So Telco M might be the best choice....

https://powerfulsignal.com/cell-signal-strength/
"Physical barriers block cellular transmissions

It’s possible to be close to a cell tower but still receive weak cell signal. Many building materials—including concrete, metal, low-e glass, wood, and plaster—reflect or absorb cellular frequencies, preventing them from penetrating the building and reaching your phone. Stucco with wire mesh, metal roofs, large logs, and vapor barriers in attics also impede cellular signal. A large concrete building between you and the cell tower can also block signal from reaching you.

If you’re outdoors, dense forest and hills will reduce or block cell signal. Low areas around lakes, rivers, and gullies can also experience problems—there is signal, but it’s passing way over your head.

Dense urban areas with tall buildings have a different set of problems: Sometimes the top floors of buildings, forty or fifty stories up, can’t get reliable cell signal because cell tower antennas are aimed at lower elevations.

In these situations, a cell phone signal booster for home, office, or vehicle can solve your reception problems."

.
Try testing at Level 5 or below, or at Level 20 of another nearby building, or with another celco's prepaid Starter Pack or a friend's phone.

Generally, thick walls can disrupt phone signals. Samsung S10 is 4G-compatible and you can check if it's enabled via your phone settings.

Your telco carrier also plays a part. U-Mobile tends to be less reliable for consistent high-speed network. You can consider either Digi or Maxis. I find Digi slightly better plus they have a few ongoing postpaid offers now. Found this page you can take a look at for their current promos:

Hope this helps.

Agreed.
Telco do play part too..
Esp U Mobile... Many complaint about their sub par services given.
Sucks to the max.... Only good is offering competitive plans..
For what if plan is competitive but cannot fully use them...

Better pay more for better service (if any)... Or just suck it up & accept the fact...

Lower 4G LTE frequencies give better range and object penetration.

Afaik, only high-end Samsung phones can select LTE Band. Other phones auto-select the LTE Band with the strongest signal, eg auto-select the worst but stronger/nearer LTE Band 7/2600MHz, even though Maxis also has the better LTE Band 8/900MHz, Band 3/1800MHz and Band 1/2100MHz. ....... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxis_Communications

Similarly, TM Unifi Mobile has LTE Band 5/850MHz, Band 38/2600MHz and Band 40/2300MHz but its area coverage is a bit poor.
.

P S - The above problem with non-Samsung phones auto-selecting the strongest but worst object-penetration LTE Band may be mitigated by phones that support 4G+ or LTE-Advanced(= can get >100Mbps) or Carrier-Aggregation = LTE Category 6 or above = most mid to high-end phones with Android 8 or later. Eg .......

https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/dcc64aed - RM499 Xiaomi Redmi 6 = LTE Cat 6 = supports 4G+

i ever used Umobile..the line not good in KL area since many users there and I believe still effected by high level floor..before this I worked at Menara Tan & Tan at level 19..lucky they use Maxis line to roam..but when I change to Celcom, I got good signal..

4G line only good at low level only unless Umobile want to invest more..try using 3G signal..

I am using Huawei Mate 20 X and bought S20 Ultra last year. I am still using my Huawei because Samsung cannot tarik line. Keep switching between 4G+, 4G and H+. After lock 4G also line not stronger inside bulding while Huawei full bar 4G and stable data transfer. Currently using digi and umobile.
