Nah. The thing is, you cant slowly up char =DEverything meaningful you do will increase AR exp.
When come the time, you will need to up the WL (and hence INCREASE DIFFICULTY), if not, story cannot proceed, then no point in playing.
But to up the WL, you need to prepare your char by LEVELLING UP to sufficient level; If not, once up the WL, you can't farm ascension mats, you die standing.
on the fortunate ARs that you can choose when to withhold upping WL, the AR continues to accumulate.
It only gives you a "sense" of control and temporary respite, but the game progress continues.
All in all, either you don't play,
or you spend the first 45AR literally enjoying the story AND LEVELLING UP your char to max ASAP,
while using whatever artifacts and weapons that you can scrape by during this time.
When you reach AR45, then only you will be able to kinda able to decide what to do.
Only recommend to farm artifacts starting AR50 WL7.
