What is decent priced? There's a huge range but for reasonable ones - at minimum in Klang Valley would be RM3.5K+ and above.

Nursing home indicates some form of care. Old folks home, these people are semi-independent, can still move around are are lucid. Meaning they can go to the loo, eat and handle themselves.

No one can give you good reviews. The best case is to get a list and go visit each and everyone of these nursing homes on your own to see the condition and talk to the residents there.

To be brutally honest, if you're looking for good quality and reasonable price, start looking early. Usually these places are full and there's a waiting list.

The others - good ones are very expensive whereas the ones that are cheap aren't so good.

More importantly, it's best if the home is near your house, especially with COVID-19. Also, it will be easier for you and/or family members to visit. Take into account jams etc.

basically there are 2 types . 1 is where the old folks are reasonably independent ---can walk a little . can feed themselves and perhaps even bath and go to toilet independently . hence only minimum care is required . Hence you will want a bit more lively atmosphere --- how will that person spend whole day there doing what . Perhaps exercise in the morning .......... and what more activities in the afternoon ( eg astro shows or singalongs etc ) . Hence whether the staffs are qualified nurses or not ( and how many doesn't really make too much difference ------------( caregiver will suffice ) but possibly there is a doctor whom will come say once a month for checkups ) . For the 2nd scenario ---the old folk is quite dependent on feeding / bathing / toilet ----then you will need to look for nursing homes which has experienced nurses for tube feeding / changing urine bags / getting rid of flem in the lungs and many others requirements ( these are more towards hospice care ) . A simple question can draw whether the home has that experience ----( do they have bed ridden patients and how many ? )

to be honest, most nursing homes are profit oriented.

one important aspect you need to look out for is food. because usually the food supplied at these places might be:

1. of low quality as most people don't really notice this and the easiest way to cut costs;
2. the style of cooking might not suit the patient - e.g. cooking Indonesian style food might not be palatable to chinese
3. the nutrition level etc.

i don't envy you being put in a situation. hopefully you're asking on behalf of a relative or friend. sigh...
