Hi,

I am using Lenovo IdealCentre Q190 with preloaded Windows 8.1 in it. Now i planning to upgrade to Windows 10. Can i do fresh install windows 10 using its OEM windows 8.1 key?

There are ways to extract the OEM Windows 8.1 key. Get it and write it down.

Another suggestion is to swap out the old HDD/SSD with a new one and do a clean install so that if anything goes wrong you can just revert to the previous OS by swapping in the old HDD.

If you don't have another HDD/SSD to swap, do a system image backup of the installation to an external storage that you can restore from in case you screw up.

Anything that can go wrong, usually does go wrong since we don't know what specific issues or restrictions your mini desktop has.

I have 2 laptops. Both bought used and came with W7Pro and W8. I formatted both with the W10Pro installation USB stick. After done, both showed up Activation required. I merely keyed in the keys from underneath the laptop and bang, both activated. Need internet access for this to work.

1. Before do anything, please follow AbbyCom steps and email the product key for win8 to yourself for safekeeping.
Backup all files first in case you need to wipe clean the drive.

2. Using the USB media tool from microsoft make the boot thumbdrive.
3. Install win10 from USB thumbdrive using generic key. - https://winaero.com/generic-key-to-install-windows-10-rtm/
4. This generic key is just to select u wan win10 pro or home or moon
5. Finish installation process. Once win10 can boot and work normally (can load desktop) use your win8 key in step 1 that you saved, to ACTIVATE win10.

I just dusted off an old PC with, ahem, "original" Win7Pro today, and it upgraded to Win10Pro after going to Microsoft's upgrade webpage, all without any issue.

Win10Pro is now activated "with a digital license". Looks like MS still is allowing free upgrades, even though there are no more free upgrades officially.
