Are Taiwanese people afraid of being annexed by China?

As a Taiwanese, not really.

Well, as long as it's not a destructive war, then it's fine. Let me be clear I like the status quo, but if push comes to shove I'm not prepared to fight my brethren for other's gain (looks over in America's direction).

What's there to fear, except fear itself? Are the communists planning on a massive massacre and orgy to celebrate Chinese reunification? No. Wanton destruction of infrastructure? Doubt it. Wholesale nationalization of private property? That's against their policy of allowing for private property. My wife's company works closely with their Chinese partners, and they seem to enjoy pretty similar standards of personal freedom.

The only thing I think will be different will be the specific parts of so-called freedom of speech, and the internet. Certain things are taboo for PRC, and I probably will find using VPN irksome, but otherwise I don't think life will be too different for the average citizen.
