I am thinking to buy 1 of the lenses as below

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM
Tamron AF 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di Macro

Any one can advice which will be better lenses? Currently own 400D and both the lenses prices are slightly different. The purpose i am buying the 300MM lenses as wil be travel and would like to take good Landscape picture.

Another question would be: Tripod for travel, Sakure tripod that would be more lighter for travel, or Digipod Tripod that more heavy ( Heavier and not nice for Travel with Backpack type ) But is much more stable and solid. Which 1 better? Different around RM200.

If comparing these 2 definetely Tammy alot better...price also cheaper but i recommend you go for Sigma 70-300mm APO

For tripod, bring one that more firm and stable, you won't want your few K's drop cause using cheap and unstable tripod right ?

@goodmorning

How about getting some better tripods? Such as velbon, manfrotto or gitzo.. Although those cost more, but it's worth paying.

Canon is much more expensive but the shop is giving cheaper price and both lenses price are different around RM50 for me, not sure about Sigma as that shop Not selling Sigma ( What the price ? ) that range too ?, i personally test on The lenses ( Just Shoot on opposite building ), fell Canon more shaper, just my fell as i am not expert yet. ( I only take 1 or 2 shoot for testing ) So not sure how far can it fell when test it to other object.

If u feel doubtful, always choose the Canon lens.

I wanted to buy Tammy too but heard a lot of problems on the brands. So feel worry. Hehehe

Added on August 24, 2007, 2:57 pmA month or two back i check, price is like

Tamron Di version - Rm580-600 or Rm680-700 ( cannot remember which one) - Made in China
Sigma APO version - RM730-750 (Made in Japan)

Canon, i heard Rm8xx (Dunno made in where)

Some ppl don't prefer Sigma not bcoz of the price but the after sales service since they dun have local distributor here like Tamron, so if lens got issue need to send back to Singapore for warranty claim.

Check this link out !

One more thing, aside listen ppl said/suggest. Go TRY out the lens buy bring your camera along...dun look at the output from LCD. Transfer to PC to judge !

Here are some pictures taken with sigma 70-300:

i'm at the same spot, tamron or canon? i did some research and read a lot of reviews. my personal conclusion is tamron is slightly better than the canon. both are soft at 300mm end. tamron has macro, which is something i want. tamron is rm550, canon is rm600 and sigma is rm730.

hello goodmorning,
i bought the tamron lens at rm580 includes hoya uv coated filter.
the canon lens is more quiet when focusing. image quality kind of hard to compare, need to use laptop.
came home and snapped a few pictures in failing light. ok by my standard. will snap a few more in daylight tomorrow.
i'm also new to dslr and eyes not very sharp.

i'm owning the canon 90-300 USM which is more or less the same as the 75-300 usm besides the range that it covers, and i'm also owning the sigma 70-300 APO. in terms of output quality, sigma win hands down.. but in terms of operation, my 90-300 USM focus much faster under lowlight condition, and the sigma will hunt around having hard time to focus.. but then, under low light condition, these tele lens wouldn't be useful unless ur subject is static, and u have a good tripod with u.. hand held shooting @ 300mm under lowlight is going to be blurry.. planning to let the 90-300mm USM go for cheap.. PM me if anyone is interested..
