Hi, my mother medical card recently price hike from rm248 to rm404 . Age 61.  Coverage 100k and room and board rm150. Any advise to cancel and find a new policy? The price hike seems too much while the coverage unchanged.
Policy bought year 2016. Never claim before and no long term illness etc.

got this from FAQs
FREQUENTLY ASK QUESTIONS (FAQ) PERLINDUNGAN TENANG VOUCHER (PTV)
Page 3 of 6. English Version 2.0 27092021

9. I am a BPR recipient who is eligible under Perlindungan Tenang Voucher Programme but my age is above 65 years old.
Am I eligible to purchase the Perlindungan Tenang products offered by Insurance companies and Takaful Operators?
• Eligible BPR recipients are still subject to underwriting criteria imposed by respective insurers and takaful operators such as age limits which would depend on respective life policies or
family takaful. Generally, there is however no maximum age limit for certain policies/certificates such as fire policies/certificates to protect building and/or household contents.
Please visit the https://www.mycoverage.my/perlindungan_tenang website for more details

QUOTE(lifebalance @ Jun 10 2023, 10:29 PM)
Hospitalization benefit and Critical Illness benefit  are both different benefits

They don't mix together but they do complement one another.

A medical card is primarily designed to provide coverage for medical expenses incurred due to illnesses or accidents. It typically covers hospitalization, surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, medications, and other healthcare services as outlined in the policy. While a medical card can be helpful in covering expenses related to critical illnesses, it's important to understand that the extent of coverage may vary depending on the specific terms and conditions of the insurance policy.

In the case of critical illnesses, which typically involve serious and life-threatening conditions, a medical card may not provide comprehensive coverage on its own. Critical illness insurance, also known as critical illness cover or critical illness benefit, is a type of insurance that specifically focuses on providing a lump sum payout upon the diagnosis of specified critical illnesses listed in the policy. This payout can help cover various expenses beyond medical costs, such as loss of income, lifestyle adjustments, and additional support during the recovery period.

While a medical card may cover some aspects of treatment and hospitalization for critical illnesses, critical illness insurance offers additional financial support to policyholders. It is intended to provide a lump sum payment that can be used at the policyholder's discretion, whether it is for medical treatment, alternative therapies, travel expenses for seeking specialized care, or any other financial needs arising from the critical illness.

Therefore, it is generally recommended to have a comprehensive insurance plan that includes both medical coverage and critical illness coverage to ensure adequate protection in the event of a critical illness diagnosis. It's important to carefully review the terms and conditions of your insurance policies and consult with insurance providers or professionals to fully understand the extent of coverage provided by each policy and to determine the best combination of coverage for your specific needs.

Under the SOCSO scheme in Malaysia, there are provisions for coverage and benefits related to critical illnesses. However, it's important to note that the coverage and benefits provided by SOCSO may differ from those offered by private medical insurance or medical cards.

SOCSO provides a scheme called Employment Injury Insurance Scheme (EIS), which covers work-related injuries, occupational diseases, and disabilities. This scheme does not specifically cover critical illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, or stroke unless they are directly related to a work-related injury or occupational disease.

If an individual is diagnosed with a critical illness, it is generally not covered by SOCSO unless the illness is a result of an employment-related injury or disease. In such cases, the individual may be eligible for benefits under the EIS, subject to the terms and conditions of the scheme.

For coverage specifically for critical illnesses, it is advisable to have a separate private medical insurance policy or critical illness insurance plan. These policies are designed to provide financial protection and benefits for a range of critical illnesses, including early and advanced stages.

Why not get your policy reviewed?

Thank you for your opinion.

I am always reviewing my insurance policies. Because we have contributed more than RM100 to Socso every month, we should use it instead of keep buying other insurance, right?

If generally not covered by SOCSO unless the illness is a result of an employment-related injury or disease, why we still need pay for it every month? It sure can claim somethings?

Same %?

If yes, then puzzling as it should be very competitive.

Maybe hv extra coverage like
Add-ons: Optional add-ons like windscreen coverage, roadside assistance, or personal accident cover can increase your premium?
*
All are standard.

All just legal liability of passengers and legal liability to passenger for negligent act only. For tokio got additional personal accident, flood allowance and hospital income. look like tokio more worth.

Can share u all buy from which insurance company?
