... Melvin Capital and Citron Research both said this week that they had closed their short positions, but they did not disclose any losses incurred. ....

What if most of the affected Hedge Funds have already closed most of their short-sells on GME/Gamestop at about US$300 per share yesterday, Friday.? If so, the price will likely crash next week or two.

Afaik;

Those HF started short-sell GME shares a few months ago, ie about one month ago, the holding cost for the short-selling of GME shares was only 5% annual interest.
....... r/WSB only started its short-squeeze drive against the HF short-sellers of GME about one month ago = GME share price rose through the roof from about US$10 to >US$400 per share this week. So today, the holding cost to short-sell GME shares is much higher and it seems there are no borrowed shares of GME available for short-selling.
.

1. Short interest rate can change, and it does change significantly in this case.

2. Interest is charged based on the market value, what used to be theoretically 5% on $20 has now become 30% hypothetically on $325.

You do the math.

We don’t no.

It will reach to a point where the hedge fun will come out and talk to settle the matter.

If the hedge fun is bankrupt, next will be the broker to go bankrupt.

I don’t no how ugly is it if broker go bankrupt.

if i could, i would really love to know;

1. how much capital (cash and loan facility undrawn) left for short sellers.

2. how many days / weeks of interest left can they afford to pay.

3. what are the lenders to the HF's game plan.

it may end up with Citadel (as owner of Melvin) which has AUM of USD30bn or the largest lender of Melvin.

WSB already said this is fuckyou money, they already prepared to burn it.
WSB there one day added 2million members, this morning until now added another 600k members

1. GME goes up $100, Melvin fund burn $1billion.
Melvin fund already called backed up once, back up money burn in a single day.
If a million ppl push up $100 every single trading day, how many billions of cash Melvin find can afford to burn ??

2. Plus WSB ppl also use calls options to trigger a short squeeze by marketmaker.

3. If you are the stock lenders to Melvin, will you be very anxious of the situation seeing that after your borrower failed to cover their stocks (buyback) after a mere $40 got pushed to $360 ??

4. will Melvin fund parent company keep selling their profitable positions to save Melvin fund losing position ?
At some point parent company will just severe Melvin fund altogether if not one reckless decision by Melvin will burn down 3 firms together

I don't think citadel and point72 will keep on cut their winning positions to bailout Melvin

Melvin is on fire and eventually will burn down citadel and point72 together

Oh well. I have spread my holdings wide and thin. If this got pushed up I'm happy. If not, I have others to hold my interest

Basket getting too wide I think....

Btw, it's most probably untrue.

There are 3 stocks they are focusing:

NAKD AMC, GME.

That's all.

Actually they targeting any shorted stocks >100%. GME just happen to be one and as iconic as blockbuster and more memeable than other shorted companies. I mean the news even get picked up by gaming news sites even though stock trading not their theme. It further gets propelled by elon musk tweet.

Other than GME, it makes no sense really. This whole thing started because of short was >100% of what's available. Anything else is just a distraction to split the crowd.

Sigh....

you believe CNBC that Melvin Capital has closed out, is like you believing Raja Petra that Najib is the best PM of Malaysia ever....

[attachmentid=10773496]

think (its allowed)......

1.  Why do they advertise the article that CNBC claims that Melvin Capital has sold out
2.  Why did Robinhood block buying of GME (because Melvin's parent company Citadel makes 40% to 60% of Robinhood's revenue)
3.  Why is the short interest still above > 100%

they are spreading fear into the weak hands to shake them out......

its like the Msian syndicates, before they goreng, articles magically appear so beautiful about their target company......

Imagine you are a gambler enjoying a night at the casino. You decide to play Blackjack. Your hand is a ten and the dealer shows a 7.

"I would like to hit."

"No sir. You are only allowed to stand or surrender."

"That's not the rules of the game. Aren't you regulated?"

"Due to the votality your hand represents to the Casino, sir, you are only allowed to stand or surrender. These are extraordinary times."

"...are you only allowed to stand or surrender?"

"No sir. In fact, we may double down."

"Wait. What? You are the dealer, you can't put more money in that I didn't put in. That money doesn't even exist on the table!"

"Sir, you have a gambling problem. We might have to report the commission on you for attempting to hit with your hand because your friend told you that you should."

"Wait, are you trying to make me fold?"

"Sir, we reported you to the newspaper for being a degenerate."

"You guys are crazy!"

"Sir, we have decided that in order to protect your interests, you have decided to surrender."
