What do you people think about caging a cat? Becos like others say, cats have short lifespan if allowed to roam around. Cos of cars, dogs, fighting and getting sick....etc.

Now every "expert" says it is not ok to cage up a cat. And that is true - at first. Cats hate it. Especially stray cats.

But what if the stray cat had to spend WEEKS in a cage being boarded at the vet due to operation....and has since become "trained" to accept a cage?

What if after going home, the cat doesn't like the kid in the house becos that kid is just noisy and a bit rowdy with the cat?

So from my observation, the cat actually prefers being in the cage NOW. Especially if got litter box and food/water provided.

It seems the cat has come to associate the cage with "peace and quiet".

Is it ok to keep the cat in the cage from now on? What if the cat is suspected to have FIV or FLV and caging it up is actually a good move to lengthen its life?

Or can a previously stray cat (actually just free to roam here and there, and being fed by multiple houses) be "trained" to become an indoor house cat?

Has anyone done this before? Made a stray cat become a indoor house cat?

So many benefits for cats to be indoors. And definitely can live > 10 years like this.

What I can say is having to care for cat/s is a very big commitment, I believe everyone has their own way of doing it, ppl can only advice and share their experiences but what works for others may not work for u, u just hav to find a perfect balance for u and ur cats to live in peace and harmony, good luck and may u live happily with ur cat/s smile.gif

Seems complicated lol. How many cats and dogs in the house? So you are in a sharing housemates / working adult house?

For my cats, they always want out the room and roam. They will meow once in a while. Now you mentioned, yeah they won't meow in cage too. Sometimes I put those fcov cats in cage in living room for a 'break' away from room. But of course if you open cage door, they will roam. This shows they don't want be confined either.

I am not cat, but rationally no living things want to be confined. You are right outside can't survive long. My experience is 3/11 outside cats is surviving for 1.5years now. Others dead or missing.

I respect your patience for answering his questions, I dont get any of the probs he mentioned, not sure what he really seek for here laugh.gif

The cat is actually a stray cat but being fed by another house. But that is all they can do.

The cat fell ill and I took it to the vet. And it had to stay there for a long time. All along I assumed it was a stray until afterwards....

So we are from different houses.

Now after the long stay, the cat came back and now staying with its former "owners".

But it's suspected to have a long term health issue. FIV or FLV.

And the mishap it suffered only serves to reinforce the notion that it will not survive long if let loose to roam again.

But caging seems to be the only option. As it's not possible for it to be an indoor house cat due to all the reasons I already elaborated previously....

Caging is a difficult decision that me and the "owners" are having to make....

Are things clear now?
*
Is this a community cat or something? laugh.gif seems to me like its a stray which nobody really owns and nobody is willing to based on the reasons u gave from rowdy kids, suspected health probs to not liking the smell of cat poo in the house laugh.gif if so just let him go or send him to a shelter, not sure why you and the so called other owners want to cage him huhu

You do realize sending cat to a shelter is like death sentence? As nobody wants to adopt them and they are probably put to sleep after a while?
*
If u think putting him in a cage for the rest of his life is better than giving at least the slightest chance of him being adopted and have his own family that will love and take care of him by all means go ahead, it seemed to me like u have made up ur mind from the first time u posted even after so many counter arguments brought by the forumners here huhu
oh and caging means fully adopted? not sure what tht means laugh.gif

I have asked around outside and it seems that many people do keep cats in cages.

But why when online, it surely looks like people want to put on a facade, and won't admit to doing this?

Hmmm.....wink.gif

But go and look at petshops and the cages they sell and then tell me what you think wink.gif
*
Haha ok i dont put any facade not sure about anybody else here, I dont think caging for certain period of time like at night or when the cat is sick etc is a prob, I do it to my cats too, but to cage them for 24hours for the reasons u gave like not liking the smell of cat poo in the house thats just unacceptable sweat.gif anyway good luck for whichever decision u make, do what u think is best for the cat and u dont have to seek any validation for it rolleyes.gif

My cat is infected with kutu...
Saw tiny worms crawling on my sofa.

So now i comb as much as i can to get rid the kutu.
Question is, my cat sleep here and there in house. I'm trying my best to identify the spot using roller dust to stick the kutu. If my cat is clean already, will it easily get infected if i didn't clean properly the house?
To totally terminate the kutu in house is like impossible mission. Scare the kutu drop here and there.

If i use mosquito spray to spray the area, will the kutu die?
*
Yes, ur cat can get reinfected so u need to treat ur home as well if u think there 's flea infestation on the sofa/bedding, for small/focused areas like ur sofa u can use flea spray, if ur concern about bigger areas like the whole room u can use those room fogger available in shopee https://shopee.com.my/product/76013940/1319...23-1618529117.9 not sure how effective this is tho coz nvr had cat flea infestation at home before, all my cats I apply advocate antiflea/mites spot-on everymonth so they dont bring back fleas home coz one of my cats is an indoor/outdoor cat.

kutu cat biggrin.gif tht sounds so funny, yup i dont think u can get rid of the fleas fully by just combing him, pity tht fella must be so itchy, if so severe it can go to the bloodstream n ur cat can get jaundice n die, my indoor outdoor cat had once but brought to vet luckily survived, after tht i apply the spot on everymonth nvr miss, now no more kutu even tho he plays outside everday thumbup.gif

Yup my neutered cat always got bullied when he roams outside, so I dont think its a good idea coz it will 'soften' him, unless u want to neuter all other males in the area.

This highly depends on you and your financial situation. I personally think that if you are able to save money in an account specifically for vet expenses, then it's better than paying a premium to an insurance company that you MIGHT use.
*
Im not too worried about my indoor cat though I was thinking to get for my indoor/outdoor cat that i can nvr make fully indoor. Hes been an indoor outdoor cat for 3 yrs now, the 1st yr or so was very difficult, he got sick very frequently and had to visit the vet almost every month and one visit I had to pay at least rm90. But now he's older he rarely gets sick, i guess his immune system is much stronger but I do worry if he gets an accident or injure himself while he's outside unsure.gif

[attachmentid=10874625][attachmentid=10874501][attachmentid=10874502][attachmentid=10874503]

Dear Cat Dads & Moms,

I have something to share and i hope someone would be able to explain this. I am an experienced cat owners, but this issue never happened to me before, which makes me sad, angry & curious.

I have a cat, named Salem. He was 3 years old. I have him since he was born (i rescued a pregnant cat). He have 4 other siblings and all of them are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, eats super premium food & stays indoor all the time. Salem (including the mother and all of his siblings) were very active, very healthy & well-fed. Even when any of them shows any sign of illness like Flu, scratch wound etc i would directly brought them to Vet. Everything went good so far.

Until last week, i've noticed Salem starts limping on his right arm, thinking of that would be a minor injury, i observed for another 1 day. Day-2, the limping area starts swelling, also he starts losing fat/muscle mass around his cheek & chest, and his body was hot, then i brought him to Vet. I've explained everything to the doctor on how serious i think the condition of Salem, and the doctor be like "no need worry lah nothing serious, no wounds no fractures, maybe he just jump & landed wrongly", the doctor even said i should stop worrying & overreacting over a small issue. And the doctor only gave Anti-Inflammatory meds. JUST THAT, and the doctor not even allow me to buy the supplement/booster or applied anything on the limping areas, they just want me to trust them as they were the Doctors.

Fine with that, i gave Salem the med, of course.. no improvements. Salem starts getting worse, he starts avoiding everyone, and lying head down most of the time. Even when i carry him, or put him on the table, he will put his head down, and he lose appetite too (i have to manually feed him). Remember, this is just 3rd day of him being sick.

Day-4, i go to the Vet again and angrily explained of what have happened, they all were shocked & scared seeing the condition of my cat since it were just yesterday i came to the clinic, and the condition was rapidly worsen. Then they shaved Salem's limping arm, they seemingly found out something, starts discussing with each other with very worrying face. And they never really told me what happened, they just "we think this might be a bacterial infection, but we're not so sure since we cannot spotted any wound". They gave me Antibiotics (FINALLY eventho its too late), and they gave me a referral letter to Specialist Hospital saying that in-case of emergency (its like they know something but they never really told me, maybe they scared of me blaming them for not doing it right the first time). And they said its a really really rare case of a cat went from very healthy to seriously ill for just 3 days.

After went back from clinic, gave the meds, nothing good. And this time he walk around everywhere pointlessly. Several hours later, he went to kitty heaven.  bye.gif  All that happens so fast, from very healthy to getting sick for just 3 days & died the next day. And he is just 3 years old.  sad.gif Yes i am angry with the doctors as they were not taking my point seriously, if they do, that would have saved Salem's life. But i am more of wanting to know what actually happened, what disease that can killed a healthy house cat in just 3 days.. If its a bacterial infections, how or where do he get such bacteria? Or he might allergic to something (since i changed the food recently)? Or any fatal insect bites that does not leave any wound (i live in a level 4 apartment btw)? Or any possible natural diseases like diabetes, nerves disorder or anything?

I need to know as i have to protect my other cats at all cost.  sad.gif  I hope anyone here can explain or share their experiences too. Thank you.
*
So sorry for your loss sad.gif What was written on the referral letter to the specialist hospital? Maybe u can find some clue about the disease there.

Is it safe to leave my cat indoors in my house? She doesn't like to be caged. She doesn't like to be kept in a room. I'm afraid she'll damage the furniture when I'm not around or I'm not supervising her. Kindly advise please thank you.

Also my cat once peed at the corner of my room. She's around 1.5 years old, not neutered yet. Kindly advise please thank you.

If this is the first time ur having cat indoors, google about catproofing your house. You will be surprised at how many simple things at home can be dangerous to your furry friend. U can also watch Jackson Galaxy's utube videos on how to prepare your home before having a cat. Yes and some cats can feel a house as a cage too esp adult cats which r used to living in the streets, they just wont live indoors 24/7 no matter how hard u try, my cat that I adopted frm the streets is the same, it will rebel and act out like spraying and peeing around the house if he is stress bcoz I dont let him out even though he is neutered. He just needs to spend some time outside at least a few hours a day, but i always make sure hes home every night, usually he wont go far and he will come back home easily if i call out his name laugh.gif hope my neighbours dont think i'm crazy calling out his name every afternoon/evening, well not everydy actually, sometimes he will come back on its own lol

Dear Neome, may i know what kind of litter box you using? Mind to share some of the best litter box for apartment use?
*
I use normal plastic litter box, I usually will pick the biggest one available so that less litter will be thrown around when they do their business, but bigger litter box means u have to buy more litter huhuu wether to pick the closed or open one is really depends on ur cat, some cats prefer the closed one some cat will feel trapped n prefer the open one smile.gif

You just need to try. I have 6 cats free roaming for nearly 2 years d. Nothing is dmg except wallpaper cause they like to scratch. Yeah really nothing I can think of.

Those tv show vase broken this and that fake la. They even sleep in front of my TV or walk behind. Didn't push it down, finger crossed.

What you need to do is in fact precaution of their safety. Make sure there is 0 way they can get out of house. Any tiny opening they will squeeze through. Dun have plastic bag accessible. Some cat like to eat plastic. Knife keep at inaccessible place.

Edit: just thought, they dmg my cheap speaker lol. Chew off the wire. Feel funny than angry
*
omg 1 of my cats really like to chew plastic n swallow like its some kind of a snack , then he will either vomit it out or expel it out thru the other end laugh.gif it really baffles me rclxub.gif what really attracted him to the plastic coz it literally tasteless and odourless to me not sure how it taste or smell to my cat tho laugh.gif

My cat that eat plastic got me worried. Didn't vomit out any. Not notice through the other end also. Other cats eat d will vomit out soon.

So can only hide those plastic bag but sometimes tapao d didnt clean fast enough, he eat again. Sigh
*
ya2 i think the piece of plastic I found in the litter box is also from the vomit not the poo hmm.gif coz the color is much lighter huhu but luckily he nvr ate a whole plastic bag before, only small pieces of plastic he sometimes found on the floor of the kitchen, even the small raffia string tht ppl use to tie plastic bag also he ate n vomit once doh.gif but he is almost 1 year old now hope he grow out of the habit soon biggrin.gif

there is always risk , d cat will climb n fall over.

they do stoopid things, n unpredictable.

so is up to the owner to decide, n access the cat temperament.

good example is , the cat tht can hang on the shoulder of the biker owner..

how many cats can do that?? lol..
