Below are the 2 brands he offered,
Michelin PS4
Continental UltraContact 6
Not sure which is good? I've heard about PS4, but wanna hear about UC6 too.

Thinking of upgrading my rims 1 size up. the tyre guy is proposing 205/50R16 (+1.4% change from current 15").

QUOTE(6UE5T @ Jan 19 2021, 12:59 PM) was crawling the tered and saw your reply to someone else's too, same tyre size even! 😂QUOTE(6UE5T @ Jan 9 2020, 01:53 PM) Who says PS4 is for race track driving? PS4 is still just daily drive street tires, just a very good one, but it's still not race track tires. UC6 is low end model from Continental, not recommended especially combined with PS4 at the front already. Hankook V12E2 is a good choice but it's not available in 205/50/16. Or do you mean the V2C2? If V2C2 then it's mid performance model, so not a good match with your existing PS4. For your size not many good choices. Maybe can try the new Toyo TR1, around 240-250/pc. QUOTE(6UE5T @ Jan 18 2018, 10:59 PM) Check if your rims is at least 5.5jj wide. If that's the case then you can just use 205/50/16 which is much more widely available for UHP tires like Michelin PS3/4, GY F1D5, BS RE003, & Yokohama Fleva (but still not the V12E2 unfortunately). PS4 would be the best choice. *continues to do homework but skewing towards ps4 now*UC6 on the other hand is just the 2nd lowest range tire from Continental so the level is far below those I mentioned. Probably slightly less performance than PS4 but should still be pretty good UHP tire and more importantly cheaper by around rm50/pc so it should be an excellent value for money.*continues to do homework but skewing towards ps4 now* This post has been edited by 6UE5T: Jan 20 2021, 10:31 AM diners liked this post

Will keep in mind when changing tyres. GYF1 will still be better choice than UC6 right? Also, if I may seek for your knowledge about tyre and wheels, do I have to take note about the offset and scrub radius? I’m changing from 185/60R15 ET40 to 205/50R16 ET46 (both rims are from VW Polo HB and Vento TSI respectively). Apparently those online calculators said that the new rims have negative scrub radius which may affect braking and stability 🤯 This post has been edited by diners: Jan 20 2021, 11:02 AM |

I had used the predecessor F1D5 and even that was already pretty good and almost matching PS3, so this new replacement F1S would be even better. Also, if I may seek for your knowledge about tyre and wheels, do I have to take note about the offset and scrub radius? See article below for more details of scrub radius. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/what-is-sc...s-it-important/ Btw for 185/60/15, actually the more exact conversion size to 16 is 195/50/16, while 205/50/16 is slightly bigger by 1cm diameter. But yes, 205 is still ok to use, slightly better grip and comfort but consequently slightly heavier too. Better you do a test fitment so can see the difference if 205 can still clear/won't rub.On the other hand, regardless the price, 205/50/16 slightly bigger 1cm diameter but still can be used too right? Aiya my bad I missed out salient points. Yes, it’s 7J x 16” alloys. Those rims was fitted with 215/45/16 out of factory (Vento TSI) but I think that’s too much and >3% diameter change for my car. I think with some homework (digging old posts) done and your kind inputs, I’ll just go with that rim with 205/50/16 PS4 and test fitment........after mco 🤞🏻 Thank you guys very much 💪🏻 This post has been edited by diners: Jan 20 2021, 01:38 PM |

QUOTE(Beach_Boy @ Jan 19 2021, 11:36 AM) here's a short one to sum up my experience: just thought of updating to sifus who spent time to reply my query previously I've never needed to worry about wet/dry grip and braking (but please drive sensibly when it's wet la) it's relatively durable (20k km of hard driving and still looks quite ok), ive used it for 40k km on my previous car and it still looks quite ok it's easily available almost everywhere (unlike eagle F1/conti CPC6/bridgestone s007 where you need to place orders days before) it's reasonably priced for what it can do OTOH, IIRC PS4 is more on par with CPC6, and that's a tier above the MC6, and 2 tiers above the UC6 finally bought new shoes for my car - 205/50/16 PS4, manufactured 4420 (one of them is 4520) the tyre guy suggested to test fit with 1 piece and see if it rubs the fender or insides, but all is well. (contacted my SA who sold me the car to ask him to help ask SC if my car can fit 16x7 rims, since the rims are of the identical car higher specd variant, apparently they say can) tried to fit my hands into the, when i'm on my old 15" wheels i can fit 2 fingers between tyre and front absorber, now i'm left with 1 finger. around 1cm+, should that be fine? been driving around 50km around my area (i stay next to MRR2, so i can spin around abit without roadblocks, yet), so far i'm happy with it less bouncy when crossing road bumps, slightly more obvious bumpy when running over shitty roads but i can feel the car a little more lethargic probably due to the heavier weight overall. shared this happy news with my car friends and they ask me why I take UHP tyres when i dont always whack corners or speed (my car isn't a powerful car to begin with 😂) i'm thinking to myself, UHP or not, at least i know they are safe to use when i needed them This post has been edited by diners: Jan 30 2021, 07:39 PM |

tire performance reserve (if you can take a noisier ride) is like your savings
no one ask you to use it all in one place, but it's good to know that you have the buffer when you need it one day |
