There are 2 types of SIM locks. Those that can be checked online are those locked by Apple on behalf of operator. Malaysia iPhone all sim-unlock, so no need to check there if Malaysia unit.
Another type (specifically for Malaysia) is locked by MCMC, this lock only applicable to operator in Malaysia, they all work together to maintain one database to lock device based on IMEI - stolen, not paid installment etc.
So ask for receipt is the best way to overcome.

I actually signed up for iPhone 11 Pro in the past with for 24 months and then decided to sell the phone two months later. I didn’t know about this sim lock thing. And the buyer didn’t ask as well. But I paid all my instalments, in fact it just finished. XD.
But I think if you decide to buy telco set, most likely it will get blocked. Not everyone will pay off bills on time like me. Tsk.

Normally there is no telco-specific lock for Malaysian sets. You can try to ask Maxis but doubt it may help. Anyway, other possibilities:- - software issue. Try reset network settings. - random bug. Try restarting the iPhone. - your phone firmware is corrupted. only way is to do a factory reset. - your other telco SIM card is faulty. Try a few other telco SIM cards to see if problem persists.
