Hi sifu-sifus, I'm currently using 17" Michelin Primacy 4 on my Golf and thinking of upgrading it to 18" together with new rim.

Options I'm considering:
1) 17" Primacy 4 --> 18" Primacy 4 (Question - will this option still give the same comfort level as the current one or otherwise?)
2) 17" Primacy 4 --> 18" PS4 (Question - will this be a drastic change where I'll start hearing a lot of tyre noises and things like that?)

As I haven't tried any PS4 nor 18" tyre before, so can't really visualise how it's gonna feel after the upgrade.

Therefore reaching out to get your thoughts and advice, very much appreciated sifu-sifus!

1. Nope, it will still be noticeably harsher/less comfortable ride quality due to much thinner profile tires.
2. Even harsher and noisier than no.1 above.
I highly recommend for Golf just to stay 17, especially if you're asking such questions above about comfort which means you do care about that aspect. I suggest you change to PS4 but stay 17 cuz the sacrifice in comfort and noise is minimal yet you gain a lot in tire performance and grip.

Thanks thanks! Yes - I do appreciate the comfort so probably option 1 suits be better as you said. Though tt's really tempting to upgrade to 18" for better look and feel (hahaha!!)

Btw profile wise it's currently 225/45/17. Will probably try out PS4 once the current tyre wears out!

Yes, I know Golf std 17 is 225/45/17 which still has 10.1cm sidewall height. For me personally, don't go down below 10cm if want to still retain decent comfort. If you go 18 in the Golf you need to use 225/40/18 which only has 9cm sidewall, so a significant drop in rubber cushion and thus comfort.
