it's not about if the apps is taking it or not, it's about how the apps and services share info among each other. There's a different between giving data with few different companies and give all your data to facebook, facebook then may share it with everyone in their network, the facebook audience network. Means you give your data to 1 person, and it's either he use it for himself or he then share with everyone else who partner with him.

Nothing is fool proof. The thing is we don't want one company have more of our data, in this case Fagbook via WhatsApp. Cannot even allow Whatsapp to dominate messaging service because it will become a monopoly where they can anytime silence you for breaking their SJW rule.
