Was out just now, yes confirmed reception not good. Only those who in area of lower coverage can feel the pain.
Alternative for all those having this issue is to turn on wifi calling. ie assuming place got wifi. Another diff is Huawei allows disabling of both Sim, Samsung needs at least one on
So what I do now is turn on flight mode. With wifi calling on, and with wifi access you will still get call. Only flaw is you need wifi access and no sms. I don't think I can get sms if Sim off. You can have wifi calling and Sim on, but depletes battery.
With flight mode maybe you lose other functionality too like app notifications, this one I don't know.
Now question is why reception is a big deal, I believe when coverage is bad, your phone constantly need to find the right base station. Switching from 4g to 3g to 2g etc. This activity depletes battery faster. Not coincidence why people say Samsung battery not good, this is one of the factor too.
OK now using PC so I am writing this to share more observation on my experience with Samsung S21 after Note 2 (which died due to known Samsung memory failure, China Samsung gives free exchange despite out of warranty. No such luck with Singapore and Malaysia). Do note I am just contributing which I hope Samsung people lurking in this thread can read this and further improve on Samsung. This helps everyone since I am now a Samsung user myself again. Not bashing.
Now earlier I mention why Samsung insists on having at least one Sim turned on is such a big deal for me? Huawei allows no sim turned on. This is good. Because if you activate flight mode, you lose a lot of functionalities. Like bluetooth, GPS etc, though you can turn on manually but troublesome. Like I said earlier I don't know if Flight mode will further exclude app notification or other functionalities. I don't intend to test this out.
So with Huawei I can turn off both SIMs, activate WIFI Calling. This way I will be able to get calls (even overseas but got charge for local call rate I think, not roaming) if I have WIFI access. No sms though I think. And your phone battery will not constantly have to scan and switch to get better reception. Now with Samsung S21, I can only activate flight mode which means I will lost a lot of other functionality to achieve the same result.
Note this really is painful for those with poor coverage. Personally I am using DIGI, my home has good DIGI signal compared to Maxis and Celcom. Due to the inconvenience of flight mode, now I have to on WIFI calling and also DIGI sim card when I am in areas where reception is bad and I am expecting calls. Depletes battery big time. Small things, but this is how I feel about Samsung. Maybe they are really going Apple route, thinking their way is the best user experience.
I described the above example, allowing disabling of both sim cards scenario. A small but maybe useful thing for some of Samsung's users. Isn't it what android is about? Customization? For those constantly travel before the pandemic, having the ability to turn off all sim cards instead of activating flight mode can do wonders.
