Musical animation ‘Over The Moon’ available in Bahasa Malaysia

QUOTE
The recently released musical adventure Over The Moon also features a Bahasa Malaysia version.

Voicing the three main characters in the film are Fatin Syazana, Nur Azeera Nazir and Aaron Teoh.

A co-production between Netflix and China’s Pearl Studio, Over The Moon tells of a 13-year-old Fei Fei who builds a rocket to get to the moon to prove that the Moon Goddess Chang’e is real.

She does get to her destination, but it's all very different from what she imagined it to be.

As with most dubbed versions, the songs are also translated to Bahasa Malaysia in the animation feature directed by Glen Keane.

One of the most exciting songs in the film is Ultraluminary, and it may also be the hardest to translate and sing.

Fatin, who voices Chang’e and sings Ultraluminary, said this in a transcript from Netflix: “The most common misconception about dubbing would probably be that dubbing is an easy job.

“People think that you just have to sing like you normally do, but it’s actually not that simple. You have to make sure that the choice of words matches and synchronises with each syllable, following the movement of the characters’ lips.”

At the heart of Over The Moon, which includes many fantastical elements, is the story of a little girl who’s grieving over the death of her mother.

Hence for Nur Azeera, her biggest challenge in voicing Fei Fei was “conveying the depth and range of emotions while maintaining the innocence of a young girl.”

She said: “Fei Fei is unlike any other child that we see in most animation as she has experienced a huge loss in her life.”

Meanwhile, Teoh shared why it’s important to have dubbed version on top of the original version, especially for children's shows

He said: “(The dubbed version) is going to reach a lot more people, especially kids who aren’t necessarily used to reading subtitles just yet... (This way) they can just immerse themselves into the (film).”
