KUALA LUMPUR: The police have arrested two Nigerian men when their fake sugar mummy and sugar daddy Instagram page was detected after they used a photo of the Sultanah of Kedah on it.
Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) deputy director Comm Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said they were alerted by the Sultanah's private secretary on July 10 last year that an Instagram page had tarnished the image of the Sultanah and the Kedah Royal Institution.
"A police report was lodged and we began investigating the matter. We raided an apartment along Persiaran Saujana Putra Utama, Bandar Saujana Putra on Jan 5 and arrested two Nigerian men aged 25 and 31," he told reporters at the CCID headquarters here Friday (Jan 8).
He said investigations revealed the suspects set up the Instagram page to lure customers for non-existent sugar daddy and sugar mommy services as well as sex and social escort services.
"They would offer sugar mommy and sugar daddy services to victims for between RM6,000 and RM8,000 per session. They also claimed their services were registered in Malaysia, Singapore and Dubai," he said.
Comm Mohd Kamarudin said the investigation revealed that they also would dupe potential male and female escorts to join them by only charging a RM400 registration fee.
He said they seized seven mobile phones, three laptops, one modem, one router, 12 sim cards, RM138 cash and two ATM cards.
"When we checked the ATM cards, we found a connection to nine police reports involving online sales fraud and love scam cases with estimated losses of over RM768,145. Both suspects have been remanded to facilitate further investigations," he said.
