Anyone using Optimized Battery Charging ? I have it on from day 1 by default. And according to apple, there should be a notification appearing once u hit 80% charging, so it won't go beyond 80%, but every single time it goes beyond 80%, like to 82%, and no notifications. I also read that in Location Services > System Customization MUST be enabled, and also Significant Location, but almost everyone said that Significant Location must be turn off to extend battery life as it's continuously using GPS to check your location, but System Customization is the one that must be enabled for OBC to work, can anyone verify ?

For the record, I don't charge my phone overnight, I normally always charge it any time of the day most likely around night time, I charge it at 40-50% and manually unplug it when it reaches 80%, but sometimes I forget and it goes beyond 80%, does this means OBC will not work for my situation ?

Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time.
You haven't met this condition.

So in order to meet that condition, I have to charge my phone at almost the same time daily or I have to charge my phone overnight daily ?

Yes, it needs to be a routine -> cannot be random time. Extended time I guess is longer than 4 hours on charger +/- 1 hour for routine.

Ohh i see, so for my case, if I charge it manually even at the same exact time, for less than 1-2 hours, OBC will never activate ? And to have it activate the only option is to charge it overnight.. blink.gif

The whole point of OBC is that it establishes your charging pattern and then determine when to fully top up the charge just before you unplug the charger. If you keep plugging in and out randomly then it won't be able to establish a pattern.

For me I don't charge or plug in and out randomly, I only always charge it at night around 9 or 10pm, but i don't leave it to charge overnight, so basically I plug it in at around 40%, then plug it out at 80% manually, in this sense OBC will not work for me even if I do the same pattern everyday?

It takes around 2 hours to fully charge your battery. Anything above 90% is charged slowly because iOS doesn't know chemical status of the battery and it doesn't want to overcharge over 100% (explosions etc...). Based on this fact 2 hours is too little for optimised charging slot. It really needs to be at least 3 hours.

Yes the feature is beneficial for those who charge overnight (while they sleep). The main purpose of the feature is you to leave home with 100% battery charge.

Ohh ok now i better understands it. So OBC is not for people who opt for manually charging the phone, so for me OBC will never work because i won't be charging my phone overnight in the long term. That's why I find it puzzled why I don't see OBC's notification when I reach 80.

So in a way I also have to pay more attention by manually pulling the plug when it reaches 80% then. tongue.gif

PS - to avoid making another thread, is it correct to say OBC is only meant for people who leave their phone to charge overnight?

So if I'm someone who charge my phone either morning or night, and I go with the 40-80% charging rule, manually plug out when reaches 80+, then OBC is basically useless for me as in i will have no need to use it ?

i charge overnight and leave OBC on. i usually put it on the wireless charger at around 12AM and can see that when reach 80% it will stop for few hours and after that continue charging to 100% and end at around 6AM.

btw, just curious if anyone ip12pm battery health has gone below 100%? so far mine is still at 100% since i got it on 13/11/2020

Yes, so it's clear that OBC is only for people who leave their phone to charge overnight right ? For my case if I manually charge it from 40 to 80%, OBC should never work and/or be beneficial for me ?

duration isn't the only factor, location plays a part too. OBC will also not kick in if say, you leave the phone charging overnight in a hotel you are staying. we are already benefiting from trickle charging.

Yes i understand, location and etc plays a part. But for my case, it's certain OBC will not be activate no matter what because I'm manually charging from 40-80% and that's like less than 30 mins ? So my point is OBC won't be beneficial to me since I don't charge it overnight.

Yes, you are right because since you are facilitating the charging pattern manually by yourself then iOS will not interfere with it since it has no need to. OBC works like a cheat sheet for people who couldn't be bothered with how the charging works.

Literally, just take it and go.

Yeah exactly, haha. I never really give a shit about how to charge the phone this and that when I was using my IP6, didn't really take good care of it, ended up this and that and screen burst. So I got the IP12 and literally going to take good care of it and baby it.

"screen burst", damn. what did you do with it?

i have never encountered any issues with battery charging on my 5S and 6S.

Errr, I guess I wasn't conscious enough of protecting and taking care of my 6, so after tempered glass burst, I never really bothered to go buy another one, so i just left it naked, yes literally screen naked, and the next thing is I dropped it face down on the road, hahaha.

No battery issues for my 6 too just that the battery health obviously did drop quite a bit, because i really didn't care how i charge back then.

haha gawd.

i cracked the lower right edge of my 6s screen 3 days before I collected my 12 Pro (despite having a tempered glass protector on it - not the full cover type). it just decided jumped off my sofa one evening.

I seriously think it's time for both of us, it's a sign telling us it's time to upgrade from the 6 / 6s to the 12. And I have no regrets getting the 12, none. I'm one that uses my phone for a very long time, and I'm glad I made this purchase, knowing it's going to last me for many years to come.

my wife has been literally nagging me to change my phone since last year because i kept complaining how i ran out of storage space and also how my 6s would go on and off silent mode by itself without me touching it but i decided to hold out until the the 12 is launched because i really don't fancy the still curved edge design on the 11.

i remember when i first turned on my 12 Pro, i could feel my mine blown

and you are absolutely right, i am glad i made the purchase (despite it costing so much) and the built quality does feel like it's going to last!

Hahaha, my mum saw my burst screen, and despite me saying i'm still using it and still gonna use it, she said just get a new phone, and so I did. Yeah, I'm very glad it went back to the nostalgia square design, really really enjoying the design. Definitely going to last a long time, the built quality is just top notch, same goes for every iPhones.
