 Question about outside walls being 5 feet

Hey guys, I've recently decided to renovate a single storey bungalow in Ipoh and I came across some funny rules but I can't seem to find a legitimate source to confirm. I was wondering if anyone here had some experience or knowledge as to where I can find the guidelines to build/renovate a home or confirm these:

1. Outside walls can not be above 5 feet
- then isn't it easy for thieves/robbers to just hop over the wall
- is there any exceptions/loopholes to this

2. The walls of the home must be 5 feet away from the outside/fence wall
- for what purpose though?

Is there any other ridiculous law/rules that I need to know before I start my planning journey?

You have to refer to your local council, different area, different rules.

Hmm but I can’t seem to find any guidelines online. Is contacting them directly the only way to find out about this?

There's always a town planning department in every local council. You may refer to them directly.

Hmm.. 5ft huh? Around KV.. it's like 6ft or 7ft.. I think..
Btw like others said.. refer to local council...

Different municipal councils may have relaxed certain regulations within their territory but the general rules remained the same where the first wall of a building must have a setback of 20ft from the front boundary and there home owner can fully extend their house all the way to the rear boundary. However, DBKL has relaxed the regulation for property with a width of 18ft, allowing a setback of 15ft instead of 20ft.

A 5ft setback means you can't even park a car on your porch.

TS is actually asking about the fence/boundary wall height, not the distance of first wall to front boundary.

My apology bro and thank you for highlighting it. My earlier reply was to addressed the 2nd question pertaining to the first wall of a building. Accidentally left out the first one.

As for the 1st question pertaining to the perimeter wall heights, this again pending on the local municipal council regulations. The restriction is set at a maximum of 6ft for solid wall and 9ft for partially/fully visible wall. This is based on UBBL

My apology again for over looking the first question.

Actually i think the 2nd question is also not relevant to front boundary as well. TS is having a single storey bungalow, so i assume he is asking about the side extension and thus 5ft rules is applied on the side. Front is usually 15-20ft but so many houses renovated just nice to fit 1 long sedan/MPV length and make the house looks weird.

follow guidelines from MAJLIS BANDARAYA to avoid penalty/problems in the future.

Anyway, follow neighborhood and it should be fine. Anything arises, just point to neighbor and say 'dia boleh?' devil.gif

Yes, agreed where Q1 and Q2 are totally irrelevant. Yes, you are probably right abt the extension on the side of the building.

Personally, I like the comment you have made on simple reference check when approached by authorities, Dia Boleh? Lol

Haha I like the "dia boleh?" idea. Yea the first question was how tall can the walls be. Its because I can't find any guidelines online on Ipoh government sites so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

The second question is asking the sides of the walls (i.e. the walls between you and your neighbour) that wall needs to be 5 feet away from your house also?
