Now that I am aware, it's time to beef its security layers to more than just a meager DIR-830M.
That's... one of the good selling point of Unifi though compared to for example Maxis.

Not necessary if you're not opening/forwarding ports (like he was trying). And if you are port forwarding, then there's really nothing your router can do since you're explicitly allowing traffic in to your machine.
