I just remembered to do my EPF this year ( lol I only have 2 days to contribute to KWSP )

Anyways As I was putting in the money ( RM4k to maximize the deudction + RM3k life plan )

I realize there's a column called i-Saraan

Apparently it's a scheme for freelancers like to me contribute EPF

And it provides with a RM250 incentive from the goverment

Anyways I heard I'll have to fill in a form 16 G ?

However I'm not at a branch at the moment whilst I'm still given the option to contribute to i-Saraan

Should I go for it ?

was informed previously by a forummer, that if you do it thru the bank's FPX....select the I-saraan contribution option so that money can be directed to there (not the self contribution option)

according to the EPF website,..there is a form to fill in...it requires thumb prints....but since you are short of time to do it....just ignore the form,...then see (in Apr or May) if you the i saraan incentive will be given into your a/c....if yes, then it is bonus but if not it will still be OK for you just wanted to reduce tax.

Thanks mate ! Do you think the RM4k will be frozen if I don't fill in the form ? And also can the form be filled in retroactively?

on the epf websites...it just stated
"*Not applicable to members that receive a fixed employer contribution.
*Government contribution is limited to members who are below age 55."

since you are a freelancer that does not have fixed employer contribution,....thus i think they won't freeze your 4k.....worst is they will just not gives you the 250.

come to think of it...just separate the 4k into 1670 for I saraan option then the balance (2330) into normal self contributions option....

Thanks man ! In the end I put 4k in I saran

I tried calling for half an hour and they dont ever pick up ... grrr

Their hotline is overwhelmed by iSinar applicants or applicants-to-be.

You need to be present at the epf office for the thumb print, else you wont get the rm250 i-saraan.
